No, nope, nopeWell its that time a year up here. Anybody else putting on the 4XE bra on? Simply the only way to keep out of FORM if you ask me.

Fuel Oil Refresh Mode.I'm not a 4xe guy, but what is FORM?
What is it that the bra supposedly does?Fuel Oil Refresh Mode.
easiest translation…
FORM stands for Fuel/Oil Refresh Mode. This is a process that some PHEV’s use to maintain the internal combustion engine (ICE), the 2.0L ICE in the 4xe is a direct injection engine. A direct injection engine injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber and not into the intake or ports like some other types of fuel injected engines. Direct injection has some performance advantages but on an engine that is on/off frequently like a PHEV this can cause fuel dilution in the engine oil.
not a hybrid guy myself and want nothing to do with them per say. I’d personally be super scared to cut off any air flow to the 2.0 engine. The turbo is going to fry the reservoir above it. Regardless of how cold the outside is. Just my opinion..,What is it that the bra supposedly does?
I'd imagine it's a warmth thing?
But why would it being warm...prevent it from running? I had to google a little this is very foreign to me. lol
Just curious and like learning - pardon the hybrid newbie.
I mean OP is in Canadia, and super cold climates are the only places I might be ok with it.not a hybrid guy myself and want nothing to do with them per say. Skimming a couple posts in the threads listed under "Similar threads" at the bottom of this page, it seems like electric-only does not work below a certain temperature. It seems like the bra helps trap in some heat to keep the 4xe in electric instead of constantly cycling the ICE on?What is it that the bra supposedly does?

Being a manual only guy that's so odd to me. If I have really short drives for errands, I'll take the long way home just to get the engine up to temp. I want the engine to run, because getting up to temp is good for it. lolSkimming a couple posts in the threads listed under "Similar threads" at the bottom of this page, it seems like electric-only does not work below a certain temperature. I totally get the colder environments where some use cardboard but for me again it’s the extreme heat that the 2.0 put out engine compartment wise that’s crazy.Skimming a couple posts in the threads listed under "Similar threads" at the bottom of this page, it seems like electric-only does not work below a certain temperature. If the engine automatically runs when it's below freezing, what is the difference between bra and no bra? Wouldn't it get up to temp regardless?it comes on when the temps get bellow freezing. Makes getting the oil up to temp actually possible. Without it you simple can't get the oil warm enough and the 4XE will go into fuel refresh mode...
Its not really an MPG issue, I just figure it can't be good it the engine never really gets to temp...
With a block heater, the 3.6, and where I live, I haven't needed to cover the grill up. Most of this week, the low has been around -10F—a far cry from the -30F or more seen in the interior.I totally get the colder environments where some use cardboard but for me again it’s the extreme heat that the 2.0 put out engine compartment wise that’s crazy.
This reason alone is what concerns me going forward for hybrids and such. I hope it works out for you sir. Next time your out and driving around for a long while in the cold could you post a pic of the temperature gauges in off road pages if you have that ability?it comes on when the temps get bellow freezing. The coolant will get up to temp, but the oil temp just won't get very high no matter what you do in -20/-40 F weather. The cover makes it possible. If the engine automatically runs when it's below freezing, what is the difference between bra and no bra? Wouldn't it get up to temp regardless?
Genuinely curious.
