Although I don't own Maxtrax, I have seen them used in recovery situations, they are impressive. They are on my long term list, but it is always good to have systems that build or support other recovery items. The Deadman is versatile and it is on my list as well.

I'm a big believer in Maxtrax, "other" brands not so much. A set of them, a Pulpal or Deadman for self recovery, all mando for desert ops IMHO. Best to not go alone but sometimes well, that's why you bought a Jeep right?

(Ahem)... yea we go alone, the big factor is the solitude after all, but we have avoided some more difficult trails for that reason. Hope to fix that with company in the years ahead.
We try and be smart about it and take plenty of supplies etc, plus the reason for the OP.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the Maxtrax. They have several uses as well, one being using them to level you vehicle if you're sleeping in it.

This might make you think twice about the blade type sand anchor.

I mean, did he really try to step on that?? Did he think it would magically stop the Jeep?? :cwl::cwl::cwl:

Way back in the day...We used to take the spare tire and wrap a winch strap around it. Then bury the tire in the sand with about a 6ft trench dug for the cable leading back to the winch. It worked most of the time.

Heh Heh, well I think you might think twice about having THAT GUY do any kind of RECOVERY--

I've witnessed that sand anchor pull jeeps out of DEEP SAND and-

It's gotta be buried at least 3' deep/w the winch hooked as low as possible/w anarrow trough to keep the cable pull low/straight--

Look up the old US Army vehicle recovery Field Manual. I have done the deadman recovery in it for a M35 2 1/2 ton not fun to dig but you will know how to after doing it. If I buy a winch anchor it will be "the name brand" one used in Camel Trophy competition. It's been it my "shopping cart" for long time.
