I have been checking out a lot of lower priced winches lately. Please note that I own none of these cheaper winches yet. But feel I have done a good amount of homework.

As for budget priced winches, IMO the SW Tiger Shark 9500 is very hard to beat. It has earned that reputation. I would take it over any Smittybuilt. Around here, they call them Shittybuilt.......lol. Only problem is, the SW TS 9500 only has like a 2 yr. warranty. That hurts it a bit. The SB has a longer warranty, but you are more likely to need it.

Another I would consider is the Quadratec 9500 IS Stealth. I feel it to be as good as any comparably priced SB, but with an awesome warranty. Quadratec has a well deserved reputation for standing behind their products/customers in my experience. That alone means a whole lot. I have more confidence that if it fails I will be taken care of.

Otherwise, get a Warn M8000 or M8000s. Or one of the cheaper USA made Ramseys.

I think you are comparing to the gen 1 Smittybilt. They had lots of problems. I've seen many Gen 2 XRC and X2O SBs on the trail and have yet to hear from someone with a problem, and some guys used the crap out of theirs. The Tigershark may be great, but I've never come across one on the trail. I'd love to hear from someone who has really put it th o the test.

Heck, they may come out of the same factory.

I've got an 8 or so year old Engo that works very well, too, although it makes horrible noise when running. (Always has.)

I do like Warn, and had an M8000 on my YJ that performed well. But I've had one of their 3500 pound ATV winches fail due to a crappy cheap plastic part that should have never been made of plastic.

Good info. Thank you. I was wondering who makes the Quadratec winch?

The jack for the controller on my TS9500SR broke (plastic) but they sent me one to replace it.

I'm suffering from "analysis paralysis" on the bumper and winch.:(

The problem is caused by the cost of the two bumpers I have it narrowed down to. if I buy either of the front bumpers I want (around $1200) then I don't want to afford a decent winch! I'm tired of buying something I basically don't want just because it is cheap. Buy once Cry once. UGHHHH.... I guess there are worse problems to have!
