Looking to buy a winch for wife’s Jeep. Very little off-road mainly hi-way.
As such which is better capacity to buy?
Do you really need a 12,000 lb winch? Will a 9,500 lb winch do everything that most would need or require.
And will it fit the stock 2019 JL MOAB from steel bumper.
9500 winch is way more than enough when u do "almost no off-road"....why would u even consider a winch?

Most likely for the look.

If it is looks that are important, maybe a top end Warn is what you want.
They do have the biggest brand name, and a bright red logo.

If it's strictly function for those odd times it may be off-road, getting a 9.5k in a "cheap" winch will do you just fine.

Probably with steel cable.

Just make sure to get a cover for it if you decide to go with synthetic line.
UV degrades the rope, and if it's just sitting on a bumper without being used, it may not be any good when you finally go to use it.

We have two smittybilt x20 10k with the synthetic rope. We have had great luck out of them. My truck has a 16.5 warn and its fine as well. Northridge4x4 was selling them for around $420 delivered recently. Thats an outstanding price for a syn line winch and wireless remote.

For your factory bumper, youll need the winch plate too. Several vendors offer one. If we can help in any way, please let me know.

I went for 8k. I offroad a fair amount, mostly moderate difficulty trails, and I don't intentionally get myself in situations where I would need it. And I haven't needed it yet.
