Hi guys,. I received my Stinger 500 amp relay today from Amazon. It has very high reviews. I am planning to install this with my warn VR10 winch. Along with the safety aspect I have the same concerns of potential vandalism that were brought up here previously ( Live in southern California).

My question is you guys that have installed one of these high amp relays do you run a fuse in front of it?. I believe the warn vr10 web site called for a max draw of 352 amps or so. I did find the fuses and fuse holders on Amazon what amo rating should it be?. I was thinking around 400?. Also is there a brand fuse and holder that is best?.

Is there anyone out there that has experience with setting up a winch with a relay that can shed some light?

I have been thinkiing the same thing, not sure we would need a fuse . When the winch is wired direct there is no fuse .?

I installed the Warn power relay kit, the instructions and diagram (below) do not call out a fuse. The relay is mounted right next to the battery, so the opportunity for a short circuit is very small. Normally the power relay is off, so shorts downstream would not be active (for example in the case of an accident where the winch wiring could be crushed).

A valid argument for the no-fuse approach is that if you are in the middle of a critical recovery situation the last thing you'd want is an inadvertent fuse failure.

In this case 'accessory = winch':
