I think the Willys XR is the way I’m gonna go because I don’t really plan to add much to the rig in the immediate future, so the 35s and everything else included make it imo better than the rubicon for the price.

For sure man. I just bought one 2025 willys XR. I love it. I was also in between base rubi and willys XR, and I am coming from a 2 door sport I took offroading quite a bit so I knew exactly what I wanted/needed. I could not justify the Rubi. The only mod I did to my willys was to add longer shocks (bilstein 5100 2in lift) for better articulation. I had that setup with my sport and the flex is nuts.

The willys XR can do the main 3 big bear trails. Thats enough for me at this point in time.

Easy to throw 37s om the XR. You can even use the stock wheels. I wish I could get 37s but the MPG is already shit with 35s and I tow a camper and also carry fishing kayaks on the roof.

Yeah lol. Well my 2 door sport did allmost of that!. It towed the camper (it is a sub 2,000 lbs camper). It carried my kayaks. And it went wheeling. I didnt do all the big bear trails, but it did gold mountain, miller jeep trail, rowher (including the optional obstacle at the end) and all the stuff in cleghorn (including the chute). All with 33s, rubi springs + spacers, rear LSD and a front lunchbox locker.

So this willys is a massive upgrade for me.

I went with the turbo four engine due to the massive low end torque over the v6. Plus a superchips tuner for 600 bucks and it put 350lbft torque to the ground at 3000rpm. V6 cant come close. I also still get around 21mpg in town on 37’s. 19 highway at 80mph

Thanks for the response! Also, what mpg were you getting when your XR was stock?

It still stock. Only difference is front metal bumper with winch and longer shocks. I bought it like a month ago.

I get 20~22mpg freeway. 70mph.

City I get like 14mpg lol. But I live in the LA area and it is stop and go stop and go.

I have the v6

Not terrible but I havent towed with it yet. 37s wouldnt just affect my MPG but also make everything more difficult. Loading kayaks on the roof rack, family getting into the jeep, camping, setting up the towing stuff, etc... but 37s are the way to go for the 4 door.
