Hi guys - I'm a complete noob when it comes to wheels and terminology despite reading backspacing/offsets several times but I see someone locally selling a set of 17x8.5 Rugged Ridge XHD's w/ 33x12.5R17 tires on them. They're off from a JK so I wanna assume that these will also fit my rig but I'd like to turn to the experts here to check. Thanks in advance!

They'll fit no problem. I think a lot of people run that size. There should be a 33 inch tire thread thread somewhere here on the forum.
As for offset, the way I understand it is that the lower the number, the more it pokes out. With offsets like 0 and negatives, the more room you have to clear brakes and suspension components. But, too much poke (too low an offset number) might result in rubbing the fender (especially in cars). Hope this helps!

Here's a video explaining your tire size on the jl.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
If you have the specific offset for those wheels that would help, if you want your Jeep tires to stay closer to the fenders, an offset of +25 down to 0 will work pretty well. If you want more room to flex your suspension then a negative offset up to about -15 will be ok, if you go to far negative the poke really gets excessive and your scrub radius will be way off which can effect your steering response/performance.

I run 295/70/17s on 8.5 +10 offsets and they don't poke much at all

I noticed you have a Sahara, do you have 17 inch rims or 18 inch? Sahara's normally come with 18 inch.

We ordered 285/70R17 KO2's for my 2020 Sahara and delivery is expected today. I'm HOPING it's not sluggish like the video says. Long story short we deleted the stocks and had Blizzaks put on instead but the dealer screwed up and put on 30" tires by mistake. So I'm not going up an inch from stock. I'm going up THREE inches from a tiny tire.

Am I going to lose the zippy that the 2L turbo offers??
