Thinking of upgrading from 33's to 35's here soon. I was looking into the LT315/70R17 BFG Ko2 since I love the 33 version so much. But with it being a lot wider width I was wondering if id have to worry about rubbing on any axel joints or control arms without adding spacers to the wheels or just getting new wheels altogether. I'd like to use the stock rubicon 17" wheels. I do offroad a good bit and have rubicon takeoff suspension on my 2dr which gave me about 1"-1.5" of lift height. I'm hoping that'll be good enough if I also get some taller aftermarket fenders and then I hopefully won't rub at full articulation on the trail.

Why not consider 285/75/17? They wont rub and are nearly the same diameter as 315s.
I didn't realize that the 285 was the same height as the 315. When I was trying to research that and find the differences I only saw the 315 listed under 35 BFG Ko2. But I would much rather have a skinnier tire than a wider, so the 285 would be perfect as long as it's the same height.

Edit: Now that I google the 285 they're a whole 0.5" shorter than the 315 width, which aren't even exactly 35" to begin with.

I have a set of BFG KM3s in 315/70/17 on my patio. They measure 33”. Nowhere near the claimed 35.”

This explains why I have yet to read a single post in which they rub on a Rubicon.

You already have the Rubi suspension and are talking about higher fenders.

Regarding the narrower axles, IF you rub a bit on the control arms you could adjust you steering stops a bit to prevent that.

Wow really? They’re supposed to be 34.4” diameter. That’s kind of odd but thank you for the info

It’s not odd, it’s DISAPPOINTING. I knew going in the BFGs run small but this is pretty ridiculous IMO.

Oh well, in the end I wanted tires bigger than stock that would not rub with a MT tread pattern. These will do for now.

They could be 33” with 90% of the tread worn.

But they are 34.4” without a load on them. 33.25-33.5 once on the vehicle at 35 PSI with the weight of the Jeep on them.

Visually you can’t tell the difference between them and a 35/12.50/17, which is spec’d at 34.5”. The 315/70/17 is 13” wide and will rub with stock wheels. You could use spacers. You may also want to consider Rubicon fender flares too if you don’t plan on lifting further.
