Hi Everyone,

I’m looking at picking up a JLU Rubi. I’ve had a 2010, 2012, 2013 JKU Rubi’s. Loved them! I will say though at 6’7” my knees were pretty close to the dash and my head was pretty close to bar. Not bad though. I’m curious if the JL has anymore room in it? I’m slightly concerned the new seats and added functionality decreased headroom. I’ve seen the specs and yes it says there is more legroom, but sometimes specs lie.

Are there any big guys that have sat in the new JL?

Thanks

@DanW posted that he is 6’ 5” and has more headroom than in his JK.

Yep. If I stretch upward in the JK, my head will touch the sport/sound bar. Not in the JL. Plenty of room.

I think it'll depend on how you're built. I'm 6' 2" and driving a JL on Saturday I kept trying to make the seat go down further. I've had lots of JK/JKUs and still have a two door in the garage. This one feels much more nicely laid out. I could keep my elbow on the console and play with every button on the dash without moving my hand around much. I really, really liked that layout. I would love for the seat bottom to be tilted back a little more and the seat to go lower, but I think you'll like it.

I am 6'7" and it did feel a little tighter. The JL Sahara I sat in had a headliner so that was part of it. I think there was just a little less knee room that my 2014 Rubicon.

My son is 6'9" and he really fills up my Rubicon. I am guessing he would over for the new JLs.

As somebody else said, every person fits a little differently in every car (or not in our case )

My other car is a Pontiac Solstice and I can squeeze into that (when I take top down.)

Not as big as some of you, but I am 6’2 and if I put the seat all the way back in the JLUR I could barely reach the pedals. With the seat in a reclined area my head did touch the top middle bar. In a straight up position my head did not touch hard top roof with insulation.

The real question is wherther the unlock button is recessed enough to actually prevent your leg from locking and unlocking the doors the whole trip?

Thats great news, the jk soundbar made me wait for the JL (It would knock me out either off road or in accident).

Like others said, everyone is a bit different, so I will have to get in one to know for sure, but its sounding like its gonna fine.

Cant wait for 2 drs to start shipping!

I test drove a rubi today. I'm 6'3" and would just brush my head on the sound bar when I would lean back against the headrest. I had plenty of legroom and cleared the dash and steering wheel fine. The power line to the door did brush up annoyingly against my left leg though. Annoying, but won't prevent me from ordering soon.

Funny I'm 6'4" and had the opposite issue. I felt headroom was sufficient(less than the JK), but I could have used an extra inch of legroom to be completely comfortable.

Just test drove a 2017 JK Rubicon and 2018 JL Sahara back to back yesterday. I'm 6' 4" and 300+ lbs. I was pleasantly surprised by the legroom and headroom in both but had 3 problem areas:

1) With the seat all the way back and the seat leaned back a bit, my head touches the sound bar. This got better as the seat settled in under my weight.
2) Right leg rubs up against the transmission tunnel
3) Shoulder is right up against the B-pillar an if I pull the seat forward enough to clear the b-pillar my knees hit the dash

For me there is enough leg room/knee room that I can pull the seat forward 1 or 2 clicks to help with some of the shoulder problem. My shoulders are going to be the big issue and I'll have to take a longer drive to see if I can live with the fit.

Might have been a touch more room in the JL overall.

An accident a few years ago taught me that having my shoulder up against the b-pillar is not a good thing...so this might be a no-go for me.

Like most of our world, cars aren't designed for us big-guys but I have to say both old and new wranglers are pretty good.

Interesting, I sat in the Jeep Cherokee while waiting, that has lots of room for leg head and shoulders.

This has been my concern from the get go. At 6’6” I always felt pretty snug in my 09 rubi, but now I have a rear facing and a forward facing car seat in the back.... Hopefully my dealer calls soon so I can get in a test drive.

Update....bought one and drove it home today. Was caught in rush hour so spent solid hour in my new JL Sahara and had lots of time to fiddle with the seat.

Found that pulling the seat forward with a little but more lean on the back is just about perfect. My fat ass definitely settled the cushion down a bit. I really have to stretch out to touch my head now. The telescopic steering is great. The floor peddles could be a bit further away but at least there is lots of room to stretch my legs out behind the floor peddles.

Someone asked in some thread about knee hitting the door locks. Doesn't happen because the arm rest is in the way.

When in 2 Hi my right leg does hit the shift lever, but its fine in 4 Auto.

I think us big guys "fit", but comfort is something else...I checked out a new Sahara yesterday, and while I admit, I fit (6'4"), comfort is something different. I remember I wanted to buy a C7 Corvette when they first came out. I wedged myself into both the coupe and convertible. Sure I fit, but would I be comfortable?
Renting one from Hertz for four days answered that..No sale.
