I've been wondering this for a minute. 🤔

The weight of the EcoDiesel isn't enough to actually matter.
-2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon curb weight: 4,160 lbs
-2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon EcoDiesel curb weight: 4,449 lbs

300 lbs isn't enough of a difference to matter. I mean if it did, I wouldn't have been able to upgrade to my old steel front bumper, and winch over the factory plastic one I had before. I will say, it did create a slightly positive rake, but something I end up fixing with coil spacers. 🤷‍♂️ BIG WHOOP!

So I ask, is there anything other than 300 extra pounds up front that would actually stop someone from installing a non-diesel lift on their EcoDiesel Wrangler?

If the only difference would be upgraded coils in the front, it would massively open the amount of options out there for EcoDiesel Wranglers!!

It's heavier in the front for diesels.
I was explained in that the front springs need to be taller. Not sure if true or not. Must be a reason why companies make kits for ecodiesel.

Yeah but like I said above, it's only 300 lb heavier. I mean I'm 235 lbs. You get two people up front my size and you're already heavier than the difference in engine weights. 🤷‍♂️

The spring rates are different for the ED. Yeah it's only 300lbs, If you're mall crawling and keep your plastic bumper you will never notice. Add a full width steel bumper, winch, etc and you may not notice on gravel roads. I noticed I but I've had 6 or more Jeeps with stock and after market springs. I wheel pretty hard and haul a 2800lbs camper.

Many of the manufactures have different rates for the diesel and not just up front. I went with Rock Krawler after having the Mopar 2" kit (bought it like that) and love them. No more squishy feel on big obstacles, truck feels planted and stable. Mine is paired with the Fox 2.5s from the Mopar kit. Swapping out to adjustable shocks soon.

Long story short, there is a difference.

Over the Black Friday holiday, I think it was actually Cyber Monday.... I purchased 1.5" skyjacker front and rear coil springs. According to their website they will work with the EcoDiesel. 🤷‍♂️

I'm going to keep the Rubicon shocks for now.

I actually got a good open box price on the front coils from extreme terrain and have those sitting in my front room, but according to extreme terrain the rear coils are being shipped by skyjacker themselves, and at this moment I don't have an ETA as to when they will be arriving. I mean I got a couple months until all been needing them, but I would like to get them on there before I purchase my 37s.

My Clayton 2.5" diesel specific lift came with the standard rear 2.5" springs but standard 3.5" front springs they sell for the 3.6/2.0T. With the diesel, steel bumper, and winch, it sits level.

Metalcloak Game Charger did 2.5 coils in rear 3.5 front. With the diesel, steel bumper, and winch, it sits level.
Could not afford Clayton at the time 1st choice. Metalcloak 2nd, customer service is EXCELLENT! So it's a wash IMO.

I installed the Rusty's 3.75" advanced Diesel specific lift. And went with Bilstein 5100 shocks for a 4" lift. On the street, it was great. But, offroad horrible. I bottomed out constantly. I then learned that the ecodiesel and 392 feature front bump stops that are 1 3/8" longer than other engines. I also found that my front coil springs would hit the lip at the bottom of the bump stop causing a loud metal on metal noise.

In my opinion these "diesel Specific" springs were underated for the load. I spoke to Rusty's Off Road about this, they suggested the shock was too weak. So I installed RC Vertex adjustable shocks on the front. ( I know, they are RC, but I have used the Vertex on a previous Gladiator build, and I really loved these shocks, they are not the typical RC crap). Anyway, that made a massive difference. But, I still would hit the bumpstops. So, I added a teraflex 1" spacer to the front. So now I have a total of 4.75" lift. While adding the spacer, I ground off the bumpstop lip. Now, I have zero issues. I never bottom out, and no rubbing. Problem solved.

No rubbing, no strange noises, very smooth ride both on and offroad.

if you HAVE to get a non diesel kit, get 1" front spacers to go on top of the front coils. If you don't get something like Clayton or EVO the front spring rate is probably lower and you will see brake dives and squishiness in the front because of the springs not set up for the additional 400lb weight on the front axle.
