....jeep doesnt trust owners to abide by factory use ideas and parameters. We do what we want anyway. Rated towing capacity is low so they have deniability when it comes to any issues....

also, what everyone else said.....

All these people talking about wheelbase, cooling, power.... it's probably as simple as they only installed a class II receiver, which maxes out at 3,500 lbs. Upgrade that b*tch to a class 3 and move along!

This towing capacity always gets me. Yes you can pull the weight that's not the issue stop it and I mean without trailer brakes because lets face it maintenance on those are more then likely lacking and they are not the greatest anyway. Then comes the controlling on windy or windy roads. I have a friend that's a truck diver eh wheel holder that can't understand this!

It's more about the "rules" here in the States than it is about the vehicles capabilities. Identical European Wranglers are rated at 5K from what I understand.
I just got back from 5 weeks in Europe. The Wranglers over there are all diesels not the 3.6 gasser, 4 cyl turbo or the 392. Not sure if it has much to do with wheelbase

There are 44 reasons. but number 1 is brakes. Pulling something isn't hard, stopping that same something causes the issues.

Towing capacity went up for '24 -- I don't think the brakes/weight of vehicle changed? We did get a full float axle. 392/4xe stayed where it was though. IMO, sounds like a cooling limitation/combination of things on the 392/4xe.

I do know if I push hard enough up hills on the 392 the oil temp gets pretty nutty fast.

Meanwhile, the Durango towing capacity is 6200 lbs with the V6, 7200 lbs with the 5.7, and 8700 lbs with the 6.4 or the Hellcat 6.2. This with unibody, IFS, and IRS. Hard to believe the Wrangler is half that with an actual frame and solid front and rear axles. If the brakes are the issue, then maybe Stellantis should just upgrade them regardless of towing.

Europe has different towing capacity tests, and a different diesel engine.

I think the low tow rating is because of the soft suspension. Wrangler suspension is built for articulation with long coil springs. That type of suspension would allow a trailer to sway. But I’m sure it’s more than one single factor.
