1. Manual transmission (I've owned two VW Type IIs, a Volvo 245, an Audi allroad and now a Wrangler, all with what we used to call a standard transmission)
2. The ability to handle moderately flooded streets (my granddaughter was born in the midst of Hurricane Harvey and we determined empirically that an Escape is not amphibious).

Topless... doorless.. convertible with awesome offroad capabilities all in one.. plus I'm a Veteran so I appreciate the history and the culture.. unlimited customization to make it unique to my style. Kinda going for that tac vehicle look.. my step-daughter, up until recently, thought it was actually a bulletproof armored military vehicle.. lol

1) History. 2) Jeep has kept their roots for the more part. 3) I have always wanted a Jeep 4) I no longer needed my daily driver Silverado and my brother needed a truck asap. 4) I wanted manual transmission. 5) because off-roading. Always loved how suspensions work. Rick crawling only made it worse

Because like every other kid who grew up in the 90s and watched movies like Clueless, I wanted to be one of the cool kids who owned a Jeep! šŸ¤£šŸ™Š

To finally retire my xj from DD duties after 10 years and because I won a giveaway at work that was pitched as a jeep giveaway but in reality the prize value was $25k so that bought 60% of one and I feel like a $300/month car payment is what a wrangler should be šŸ˜‚. And the CJD dealer my dad works at had exactly what i wanted in a wrangler in stock 3 days after i won said contest, so i didn't have time to really think anything thru i just bought it immediately.

Honestly always wanted a wrangler and had given myself a time frame of another year of DDing the xj and then looking at either an A7 or a JL.

Just wanted something small and boxy, and didn't find any of the other vehicles on the market aesthetically appealing. Also wanted something with decent ground clearance so I could fit my fat head underneath without needing to jack it up every time šŸ˜

For a number of reasons.

As a very young man I owned a used, beat-up FJ40, and I loved off-roading with it.

When I enlisted in the Army in 1988, at the ripe old age of 26, the M151 Jeep was being phased out. My unit still had a few. It was the first military vehicle I drove. They were pieces of shit, but unkillable!!! I was always interested in Jeeps, but thatā€™s when I fell in love with them. I also still love the FJ40, and would love to have one of those again, too!

From a practical standpoint, itā€™s the only vehicle I would want to be in when the shit hits the fan - like after a bad hurricane, which weā€™ve been through too many times. Fording water, climbing through and over debris, leaving a road to bypass fallen trees, etc. We have also used my built Rubicon (my wife has a built Sahara) on our property for removing trees and stumps, and Iā€™ve recovered vehicles for good folks who live out here in the swamps and jungles around us.

If we ever have to bug-out, both of our Jeeps (JLUs) are large enough to take all of our pets safely with us, along with the necessary bug-out gear and supplies.

Also, during the zombie apocalypse - what better bad-ass vehicle to mow them down with than a Jeep? šŸ˜

From an entertainment/adventure standpoint: My wife and I go off-roading and ALWAYS have a blast doing so! At our age (early 60s) itā€™s the most excitement our hearts can stand šŸ¤£

Also this. My commute to work gets littered with fallen trees and limbs every time we get a nasty storm and a few spots get lightly flooded out. Usually nothing major that a Wrangler couldn't easily get through/over, but stuff that would've absolutely wrecked my last car.

And yeah, also the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse scenario, but think I'll need to mount a quick-detach cutting blade to my bull bar for that ;)
