Loving this thread!

I’ve always wanted a Jeep, but as a stay at home mom they weren’t a practical family car and we couldn’t really afford one. But every time I saw one I wished for it, planned to get one when my kids were grown and I was back to work full time.
Fast forward to now, although my oldest kids are grown, we became foster parents a few years ago and are doing a round 2! I still need a family friendly car. I’m still home full time with the kids. I had a little “mid life crisis” this year and realized I’ll never have a “child free” season that will be “right” and just bought a JLU! I’ve enjoyed upgrading, am loving wheeling it too, and the kids want to go all the time.
Loving the Jeep life and glad I jumped in!
And basically this:

You’re awesome! Way to go, Momma. Love the wrap on your Jeep.

1. i've love the looks of the jeep from willys to now.
2. my brother had a 00 tj built up and we gone 4 wheeling in ny, nj, ct, ma with a club. now has a 86 cj7.
3. i owned a 07 grand cherokee
4. 3.6, 8spd with 285 hp is awesome little rocket ship that is great on fuel.
5. i just wanted a plain and simple, piratical jeep that is different from other common 4x4.
6. i need a 4wd so i can get to work.
7. personalize it to your own. plenty of aftermarket stuff.
8. short wheelbase makes it a hell of a lot easier to maneuver around places and parking is a breeze.great on long trips, vacations
9. i'm the only one in the jeep and not hauling anything big.
10. i wanted one, so finally got one, and i would get another one. because i can.

and I bet your kids love it, I know mine do!!
It’s great! They love it! Almost as much as me! They go “off roading“ with their trucks and cars all the time! :)

You’re awesome! Way to go, Momma. Love the wrap on your Jeep.
Thanks! I’m loving it! I was hoping Bikini pearl would be this turquoise color, but went ahead and went custom! Such fun! ❤

Wow, all these answers and stories, I am sure that there is room for one more.
  • I’m a Brit living in America, and I wanted to fit in
    • I couldn’t afford a LandRover Defender
  • My wife got a pool, I got to buy a second car (my daily driver was my Merc, but I drive the JL more)
  • I started with a JK in exchange for the pool
  • I got the JK, as I run trails, on my feet, and got fed up climbing into BMWs and Mercedes covered in mud. I wanted something that I could get dirty and not worry about.
  • You can only just fit a kids baseball gear in a JK, and when it’s raining it’s a pain in the a$$ to get the kids in the back.
  • I sold my 2009 JK (which was great) and bought a 2012 JKU, which was sh!tty and leaked. My Jeep is parked outside :(
  • My JKU needed 5 new tires, I convinced my CFO (wife) that new tires would cost as much as 3 or 4 months of payments on a JLU, logic that she couldn't argue :CWL:
  • Now that I have my JLU:
    • It’s my daily driver, my Mercedes goes out once per a week (although I am looking at a new one!)
    • My wife is happy to take the family out in it
    • My wife drives it,, from time to time (she wouldn’t even get in the JK/JKU)
    • I love the heated steering wheel, cold weather package was a must have, I use it for quite a few months in GA
Now my story is probably quite different to that of many on here, and yes, I do realize how fortunate I am. But I know that I am not a minority in having my Jeep as a second vehicle, but I love it.

:jk: :flag:
Nice!

My JL is my primary vehicle.

My secondary vehicle is the other one...

A few years ago I was in the market for a new vehicle and settled on an entry level Honda with no options and hated it so I started looking for something else. This time I decided I wanted something different. Never owned a Jeep before, but while browsing the online inventory at a dealership, one stood out. I found myself checking in on it for 2 weeks almost daily so I went and took it for a test drive. Loved it and while looking at the door sticker noticed it said the build date was Feb 14. I knew right then and there that it was my girl. Never looked back.

Because it’s better on the trails than my other love—roadsters :

I had to give up my Miatas because of a bionic knee and repaired shoulder. I loved my hubby’s JK and missed it when he sold it. My JLR soft top is a fun and different roadster
A lift, Ridge Grapplers and a locking rear diff will have that Miata over those rock easy! :giggle:

Glad I'm not the only Miata refugee! I sold my '92 B&T the day before I bought my JLU.

They’re wonderful little cars—go karts! I loved mine (had an NC as well).

I wanted a CJ when I was in high school, but got a ‘65 MGB. I looooooooooved that crappy little car and would love another as a toy/project. The Miatas give you that same feeling, minus breaking down every day

I wanted, after all these years, and at this late date in life ... to finally be cool. Or at least look cool, which is not quite the same thing.

I'm a small car driver who likes convertibles. Over the years, I've owned a Mini Cooper Convertible, a couple of Subaru WRX hatchbacks and an Audi A4 convertible. I have 3 boys that I like to take camping and the latest car (A4 Convertible) was not a great fit, so I was taking my wife's Honda Odyssey. That was fine most of the time, but there were a few times where I'd bottom out driving on some of these dirt roads to boy scout camps.

So, when my A4 was showing its age, I decided I wanted another convertible car that could fit my whole family in a pinch that I could take camping. That pretty much limited me to the Wrangler. Being able to customize it like I did my Mini was a bonus too.

1. Live in Ohio (rough winter roads in the winter are common) 2. Wanted a convertible. 3. Have kids.

The Jeep is awesome in the winter. 4 wheel drive when needed. ✅

The Jeep is fun in the summer, top and doors off driving is awesome!! ✅

The Jeep is a 4 door and fits the family comfortably. ✅

Greetings again...I could not find this question in the forum but am sure it’s out there. Why did you guys buy a Jeep? Value? Probably not. Comfort? Probably not. Cool factor? Off road capability? For me, I love the way I feel when driving it. I know there’s a zillion out there now but mine feels unique to me. Wondering what the rest of you think?
I've always wanted a Wrangler since I was a kid. My Dad drove jeeps in the WWII so I guess it might be in my blood. My husband when I met him had a 77 Landcruiser, not a Jeep but similar. Had to wait till kids were grown and then I got my first Wrangler at 46, 2007 JK 2 door (loved it hated to trade it but it was having serious issues) now onto my 2nd - JLU
