Overall: if you don't have kids and you want to off-road, the 2DR's the best option.

If you still want to off-road but also have to be Super-Dad who drives everybody to soccer practice every now and then, you need the JLU.

If you need practicality and you need to carry large stuff like logs, you need the Glady.

They all have their places. And they're the same vehicle in their own souls.

Just so we are clear, are you staying the 2dr can’t go up or down the wall at Steal Bender?
With all those damn rocks filling in the trail my 2wd GMC could make it. I just want to puke when I see this. Once my knee is replaced I'm going to make it my mission on every single trail to remove the rocks that are dumbing down these trails.

I am dumbfounded that since the JLU 4 door was introduced, stacking baby heads has become a big trend so the inexperienced drivers in 4 doors are able to make it through. It's disgusting to say the least.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
The San Juan trails up in Silverton/Ouray, seemed to see many more 2 drs, vs 4drs, it seems those trails are better suited for them. Saw a few very built 4drs that were tearing it up real well up there though. I think Colorado is the 2door Jeep mecca, a lot more old mountain goats up there that just want to get away, maybe get away from the family too, lol.

Black Bear Pass being and example!!
There's no way a 4dr could make it down black bear pass.

There's 4 drs running all those trails, I was just referring to my small sample in time when we were in the San Juans, noticed many more 2drs vs the typical higher ratio of 4drs vs 2drs. And although you've done a great job w/ your trail running I'm sure there were times when you would've liked a shorter wheelbase, just like there are times I wouldn't mind a bit more stable foot print. And in the wind the 4dr FTW!

BTW, how are you like those Geolanders?

You need to run Rocky Gap near Las Vegas, that trail's a blast, and you'd do well there. Also the Backway to Crown King I'm looking forward to next year.

The geolanders have been great, nearing the point of needing replacement after ~30k miles but have held up to thousands of trail miles, a half dozen 1,000 mile plus road trips, and routinely cruising 85mph on the freeway. Traction is amazing, surprisingly quiet on the road, and handle corners at speed better than any other MT I've ever run. We did backway to crown King in my rebel years ago, used several bypasses as that wheelbase is definitely too long. Hoping to get over to rocky gap in February on our annual desert camping trip. Had never heard of it before they added it to the BOH 2 weeks after we were camping and wheeling in that area last year. Valley of fire, lake mead, the Colorado river/black canyon etc. Another place I much prefer the extra length, bombing accross the desert at 70-80mph is downright terrifying in a 2 door.

I'm not much of a poser myself. I've always just enjoyed the rides with occasional pics of the scenery. I could not bring myself to plaster badge of honor stickers on my rig. I have a few trophies and plaques in boxes and gathering dust in my garage but not much else. That's just me though.

I'm not one to brag. I'm just grateful to get out there and enjoy a few of the the challenges. It has just dawned on me in the last 60 years I don't have much to show for except great memories. And I plan on a few more.

I will say that I have been on so many trails in the West that I have lost count. Some of them have been burned into my memory.

Here are a few that some of you might recognize:

As someone who has ventured all over on 2 wheels, you're likely laughing at the debate of not having enough space in a 2 door. I like the badges for the conversation starter that they are. From trails to parking lots to gas stations we get people asking about particular trails, the program, which trails we'd recommend for their rig, etc. We've actually run something like 29 badge trails in various rigs over the years, but the badges only go on if this rig has made it. The wife and I have both grown up wheeling all over the Sierra Nevadas. I couldn't even begin to recount every trail, it's hard enough to remember every rig at this point. The WJ and XJ were the most recent before the JLUR. There was my old wagoneer on 37's. The wife's old zj on 31's. An 09 jk sport on 35's. An 04 TJ Rubicon on 35's. A previous 86 xj on 31's. Our 86 Bronco on 31's. Probably a few others mixed in there as well. The WJ is still in the driveway. The ram rebel still sees dirt a few times a year. The JLUR is just too good on road and off and has become the primary road trip and off road rig. I try to catch a few photos every trip.

You guys keep beating that dead horse lol.

At the end the 4 door guys always admit, theyre too scared to wheel a 2 door.

The JL is pretty stable it isnt that bad lol. And the 4 door is great too. Theyre both fine jeeps.

I agree w/ Zach regarding the Badge program, it's a cool thing that Jeep offers and it is a good conversation point as others do seem interested in seeing them, asking about them, etc.
I'm not one to brag, I've got a capable Jeep for all the trails I want to see and the places I want to go. I think it's a good thing that we can have specific trails that we've enjoyed that we can display on the vehicle that we explored together :)

Chris, those are some great pics, especially that top one, I wish I would have taken more pics over the years as I don't have the greatest memory and having pics to refer to is pretty cool. Sure I've got the most epic things that have happened throughout my life etched into my hard drive but a lot gets glossed over too :(

At any rate, I like threads like these as it gives you other ways to look at things, and see things from others perspectives. I for one will never own a four door, don't need or want one, but they are a great vehicle for doing wonderful things on this land of ours so cheers to all things Jeep!

Who cares. If you want a 4 door get a 4 door. If you want a 2 door get a 2 door. Point is you still have a Jeep and that is all that matters.

I really don't understand that 2DR/4DR/Glady debate. Just drive the rig that fits you, for whatever reason. Hey, it's the Freedom truck, folks: we should just all have the freedom to drive the Jeep we want and love.

You want me to admit something? Fine. I grabbed a 2DR simply because I know I suck at off-roading (for the moment) and I didn't want to hit the frame every time I go on the trails. THERE. You know it now. And i'm not even sorry about it...WHILE BEING CANADIAN.

Just shut up and drive, folks. We all have the incredible luck of owning a beast of four wheels.

Hell yes I would be lying if I said I'm not impressed by all those trails you have conquered!! I have not been on half of those and could not imagine myself doing them in a street legal 4 wheeled vehicle 2 door or otherwise. vehicle.

I'm blown away at where these Wranglers can go with just minimal modifications.
