Spent the weekend in Sedona breaking in Big Blue on some proper trails. Have done tones of hiking there, so it only seemed a fitting place for my baby's first road trip...
River approves.

It's pretty...but the trails are too easy. Wish they had some dedicated, challenging OHV opportunities, but with property values what they are, the fact that the area is mostly run/inhabited by zealous "greenies", and the fact the BLM (not that one, lol) isn't super cooperative in spite of their latest mission statement and stated goals for OHV usage, I don't see that happening.
It's true that the trails (except for the aptly named Smasher Canyon to the west- rated 7) are easy to moderate, but it's all about the scenery there. East of the 17 below Flagstaff are a bunch of amazingly picturesque forest roads totally worth the time spent on them...

It's always a good time- crazy busy on the weekends even now. Traffic will back up for several miles to get into 'uptown'. Get there by 10am to find parking and walk the shops. Get a seat upstairs at Oaxaca for great mexican food and stunning views. Then head over to the 'Y' for the Tlaquepaque Shopping Village - your wife will love you for it. We've been renting houses off VRBO in The Village of Oak Creek the last few times there. Short drive into Sedona proper but the views are almost as magnificent and you can find some really nice places right up against the wilderness...

So ends this message from the Sedona tourist borough

I actually had my first proper off roading experience on Broken Arrow a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Scraped a bit going down the staircase which resulted in me installing a 2" inch lift within a week of getting back home.

I can't wait to go back!

Lived there for a while as a kid. Not a bad place to grow up - went to the creek every day.

I live in Cottonwood, a short trip away. If ant of you head back this way, hit me up. Would be great to get some off roading in with some other people.
There are some challenging trails. You just have to know if a few of them.

I was up to Sedona last week. I did the Broken Arrow(Pink Jeep) Trail, beautiful. I tried to go up the Schnebly Hill rd. from Sedona but was sadly stopped by a road closed 4 miles ahead sign. Beautiful area but highly touristed.

We just about died getting here today. Towed my travel trailer over the back mountains to get to Zane grey campground. There was a snow storm and no place to turn around. I thought we were done for a couple of times. We saw cars and trucks sliding off all over the place. Would have been a bit hairy in the JLUR, was super scary with the grand Cherokee and a 30’ trailer!

Glad you made it! The worst part about I-17 out of Flagstaff, and 260 out of Payson, is the way people drive in the snow. It’s like because they live in Flag or Payson, they think they are Polar Rallycross racers because it snows lightly every now and again.
