I have a 2019 4 door Rubicon that I got last year for the family to enjoy on the weekends. We gone to a few state parks but mainly rider around town. I have a 2 door 13 Rubicon on 37" that is setup as a pretty legit rock crawler. I've met a group of guys that go to a Jeep "badge trail" once a month or so and actually ride. We've scuffed up some paint, hardtops, bent a driveshaft or 2 and for sure scraped up some wheels. I've noticed their 4 doors go up steep, wet rocky inclines better than my short bus and that's got me looking for a 4 door to wheel. My question is, how do yall feel about actually off-roading your 1 year old 50K JL?

I know I can take the top off, get some skids and go to town, but I know I will eventually back up into a tree. Slide off a wet rock and scratch up/ dent some stuff. Just curious how many actually do this or am I nuts?
I wheel my stock JT sport just fine up and down the mountains of Eastern KY

Mine has done beach/dunes a few times, but I'll be honest: I live by an old creed I've heard that you should never take a car payment off road, at least not anything crazy serious. Hoping to have mine totally paid off by next summer, and that point the sky's the limit. I live in a jeep-heavy area with lots of offroading, and I'm excited. Rauch Creek is well within an hour's drive for me.

I wheel my 2018 Sport S. There's an extra factor of knowing you have to drive it out at the end of the day since it's my daily driver. Done some damage here and there but that's what it was made for.

I did wait 1 year before I started wheeling it.

When I first bought my Sport last year, my wife said “You aren’t going to take a 40K MSRP wheeling off-road, are you!?!?” I cocked an eyebrow that said “Puh-lease, woman! You’re DAMN RIGHT I AM!” I promptly threw some rock rails on it, and first time out I dropped it into a deep hole, punching the front and rear bumpers out of alignment, the Jeep resting full weight on one of the rails. I hammered out of the hole, went home, and whacked the bumpers back into alignment with a sledge hammer. ;)

I blame @Roky for this LOL!

If by off-roading you mean taking it on service or mountain/logging roads, then yes, I do :)

But that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be staggeringly fun, I had a blast of a time exploring all these amazing places with just a bit of light “off-roading”.

Same here, I am in the woods heading to remote trout streams, that I no longer have to walk to.

I’ve owned several Jeeps and I beat the the heck out of the one I had back in the mid 80’s. From jumping it in the back of our high school to driving through anything that would get mud on it. Fast forward to my 3 week old 2020 Rubi.. I have no desire to do anything “hardcore” with my new ride. Living in VT we have lots of mild logging trails, the winters are fun and we have a healthy mud season. That’s about the extent. So, why the Rubicon?? Just cuz

This past December we decided to take our 2019 JL Wrangler 2 door on an overland trip from NYC to LA and back along the US Mexico border. At the start of the trip it had 5000 miles on the dash and ended with 15,000. We went up north through Colorado and Moab where we hit as many trials and dirt roads as we could.

On the way back we went down through the desert to remote camping spots to get to big Bend National park in Texas to run the Jeep badge of honor trail.

Afterwards we kicked up through Tennessee with the last off-roading down at Wind Rock Park in the great Smokey mountains

Overall one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. We did the whole thing bone stock (except for some rock sliders) bc we honestly wanted to see what the Jeep could and couldn’t handle and give us a better idea of what we really “need” and how to build it.

Was nervous about some damage on a brand new Jeep... but besides some pinstriping everything performed great. Can’t wait to get it off-road like that again.

I will eventually, I bought it 2 weeks before the planet shutdown so I'm a little behind with my plans lol

Doesn't help the border's shutdown and all the places to wheel that aren't an 8 hour drive are in Michigan.
I was really hoping to do Jeep the MAC with some friends this spring. Despite being down every 2-3 weeks before the end of the world, I’ve not done much trails in Michigan yet.

We bought a WJ for my wife's daily driver and immediately took it to the trails in Utah. We did many trails in Utah and Colorado with it over its lifespan.
Compared to the WJ the JL Rubicon makes a lot of compromises in the way of pavement ability for its off-road ability. I don't understand why a person would buy one if they weren't going to do serious off-roading. Any minivan or Ford Edge would do much better on pavement. The photos people post of driving down dirt roads, I could do in my low clearance CTS-V and used to do more than that in my Taurus SHO.
I'm in the search for a new vehicle and it will be going to the trails.
