I too just started having this same issue. I have taken it into two different dealerships and we get the same answer... we can’t duplicate the problem. It gets warm for about 10 to 20 seconds and smells a bit musty. Then it returns back to normal. This is while we are driving not necessarily stopped and the ESS is disabled.
exactly our issue... we took the 2019 JLUR in to be told it was cooling properly... they don't seem to understand or maybe need some tec classes to help us start trusting these "technicians" just seems like they could care less because they have so many service calls to accomplish in a specific amount of time.. plus whoever the guys are doing the oil changes are horrible at drenching our engine bay with oil... I really wish the dealers would take pride in providing GOOD SERVICE..ITS THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE people come back.

Jeep Cares...

I brought my 2019 in for this same issue and they told me they couldn't fix it. They said they know there is a service bulletin for it, that it is a software issue but there is not one for my VIN and until Chrysler gives them the tools to fix it, I'm stuck with the hot air issue. Can you please assist. Thanks!

AC issue I have had this issue since I bought mine taken my JL in so many times I can’t even tell you they can’t fix it because it’s how they made these JL, gladiators. I have had an open case with Chrysler and nothing I now have had a awful bacteria smell that I just had to take the dealership they cleaned it all out but it’s still the Same nothing changed pay all this money for this JL and no help. This AC just is getting worse and I’m beyond MAD!

We had this issue in our 2018 JL 2 Dr. Applied the TSB to no avail. Took it to a second dealer who also applied a “newer and better” computer flash, again to no avail. Traded in to a 2020 JLU Sport S, built 9/19, and guess what— Same issue! We never push the recirc button when running the a/c, so it happens whether or not we are in fresh air mode. Pushing the recirc button twice makes it go away, at least temporarily. Not sure what to do.
The dealer cannot fix it. For some dumb reason Jeep made it that way. supposedly to bring fresh air in at times, which would be fine if it was brought in through the filter and not just dumping outside air in the cabin. In the winter you will get cold air coming in. To stop it , look at my post #117. That stops it but sometimes [ especially in winter] you need outside air for defrost. No other vehicle i have ever owned does this including my new Ram.

Hey Cobra— I “fixed” my issue by unplugging the damper like you said. You can unplug the damper when it’s closed, which runs the outside air through the hvac, but then you lose the ability to recirc. I guess the workaround is “pick your poison”.

Yeah, i have been running with mine unplugged since last winter. I did have to plug it back in last winter for about a month to make the defrost work better.

Don't waste your time with JeepCares on AC blowing hot air. They should be renamed JeepDoesn'tCare because they called the dealer who didn't know how to fix it so they stated operated as designed. Big FYI for Jeep - the a/c isn't supposed to blow hot air, just cool. Why not take the issue to the design engineer?

Better yet, write software that just leaves the damper where the user set it.

I'm a little surprised the aftermarket hasn't yet come up with a manual control for it, either mechanical or electronic.

I thought about wiring one the switch's on the dash to control the power to the damper but it's really easy to unplug it.

I still find it unacceptable that Jeep says the AC in their great JLs are supposed to blow hot air during a defrost cycle. I find it unacceptable. I intend to have it investigated every time I take it in for service as a warranty issue so I have the documentation. If this really is a design issue, if enough owners get together and create some really loud noise on this issue, maybe Jeep will own up to the design flaw or whatever it is and issue a recall or a service bulletin as a warranty issue.
COME ON JEEP, DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. AN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BLOW HOT AIR IN A DEFROST CYCLE IN A VEHICLE.

Go back and read this thread from the beginning. It started over a year and a half ago, tons of people have complained, some of us (like myself) have talked to the dealers at length about the issue... nothing is being done. You need to accept it and deal with it at this point. There are work arounds, the most simple I find is that as soon as the air dumps in I hit the recirc button twice and it stops.
Also, it is not dumping hot air, it is dumping unfiltered outside air, meaning in the winter it is cold air being dumped in.

Ok, I'll give that a try. Thanks. But we shouldn't have to just deal with it. It's a Jeep design issue. In the summertime, it certainly is bringing in the hot, unfiltered outside air. Quite noticeable when it's 100 degrees outside.
