Hi, Trying to find info on this issue as well

Within 2 weeks of driving my Jeep off the lot 6/26/2018 the AC would blow hot air on one drive and on next drive be fine. Mind you I have a child who canā€™t always handle roof off and 100 degrees.

Brought it in, they replaced something (although itā€™s brand new) after not being able to ā€œreplicate the issueā€ at first.

A few weeks later again blowing hot air. Again replaced another new item.
Summers over.

Here we are June 2019 and again one drive hot one drive cold. Had to drive to formal events w no air and at times w an 85 yr old MIL as well as my 8 yr old and puppy.

Finally got a chance to send it in today after driving w my child and pet in a hot Jeep on and off for weeks.
They canā€™t ā€œreplicate the problemā€
so keeping it over night. Claim they know of no ac issues w the wrangler JLs.

So 3rd time w AC issue
I have the sport s with dial controls.
Itā€™s not even digital or climate controlled.
Itā€™s leased but not sure if that makes much of a difference at all

What happens if AC issue canā€™t be fixed or breaks again?
Has anyone had this fixed successfully? Were you leasing?

Read through the thread, the answer is right above your post, there is nothing to replace. Take that TSB info into the service dept and demand they do it. This is on every Jeep and they can keep it overnight for 5 years and they will never replicate it unless they drive it for 45 mins or more. It takes time for the computer to tell this thing to open the vent and dump air into the cabin.
There are two self made solutions. As soon as you feel it press the recirc button twice. This will turn recirc off and then back on. Doing that stops the damper door from doing what the computer is telling it.
My personal solution is to open the glove box and drop it down then reach in and disconnect the harness from the damper door. I do this on long trips and when we off road to keep the dust out. Make sure the damper is in recirc position when you do this. It will keep it in permanent recirc.

O times this opening event in my April 19 build JLU Sport S. It allows nasty outside air into the cabin for around 3 minutes.

I am a new first time Jeep owner. I just bought a 2019 Wrangler Sport 2 dr V6 Auto and I also have the senseless random outside air coming from behind the glove box intentional design safety feature that functions as designed, issue. I traded a 2018 Ram 1500 Bighorn that may have had the same wonderful feature but it was never noticed or an issue. I did report it with a PM to Jeep Cares on this forum.

So, I have a question about this issue. Based on what I've read, could this problem be solved if the area around the door and filter, the "cage" for lack of a better term was sealed off. Is that too simple, and I missing something? Wouldn't that force even small opening of the flapper valve to be routed through the filter and system? Maybe just seal the cage up with duck tape? Or would that isolate the system from recirculation?

Mine just gets a touch warmer when the engine shuts off for the ESS, and then once it comes back on, it gets cold again. I don't mind it.

That's not the issue being discussed here. The issue that I experience is hot air randomly coming out of the lower vents while driving down the highway with the AC on coming out of the top vents. Not steady, but intermittent and unpredictable. There is a TSB available addressing this issue. See post #391

Iā€™ve had my 2dr JL in twice for the software fix. The first time the dealer reflashed it because the computer said my fix had already applied. Still had the intermittent blast of warm air from the passenger footwell. Second time the (different) dealer said there was a different software fix and they applied the newer fix (newer than the June 2019 fix). Still didnā€™t fix it. One thing I find ā€œinterestingā€ is that I NEVER push the recirculate button on the dash when the a/c is on, so either the default is recirc on ( I donā€™t use max air either) or the problem isnā€™t with the recirc function.

I guess my takeaway at this point is the TSB didnā€™t work in my case.

First I want to apologize for not reading all 400+ posts, but I have skimmed around and not seen anyone else ask. I really only notice hot air coming in when driving with the HVAC off. If I am driving around with the doors and top off I will get a blast of hot air on my feet. Is this all related?

That's a new one. It dumps in on the passenger side and it's not any temp other than the outside temp (well a little warmer). It's because the damper door opens and allows unconditioned outside air (hot in summer cold in winter) to blow right over the cabin filter and into the cabin.
If you have the HVAC off I would guess it is still actually doing the damper door movement because it's "designed" to bring "fresh" air in from the outside so there is no oxygen depletion in the cabin. No, I'm not making that up. Some suit at HQ told that to my service manager which made for a good laugh.

Anyway... I never feel it on the driver's side feet, passenger's feet yes, driver's feet no. If you really are feeling it on the driver's side then you may have something different.
There is a software update TSB back in the thread (not far back) and you can request they do it.

FYI, if you off road you really want to drop the glove box door and unplug the harness to the damper while you are off roading. One guy dropped his glove box to find that his entire area behind the dash and front console was covered in dirt and silt. Makes total sense since that air comes in unconditioned and unfiltered. Anytime we off road I make sure the damper is shut and unplug it.
