Seems like it's done to regulate the overall temperature, but I've only had my JLU for 2 weeks. We'll see how it behaves after 4 full seasons of climate control...
But you're in Canada... I didn't think ya'll had 4 seasons... I thought you only had two -- "Winter" and "Really Crappy Snowmobiling Weather"... :)

You were correct about there being 2, but they are "hockey" and "baseball" seasons! Or "curling" and "golf" season for others...

Isn't it difficult to find the white golf ball in the snow? Or do ya'll use orange golf balls? :)

I took my JLU in today for the cruise recall and to have the dealership look at the ac. I was told by my service tech “that the warm air is a feature by jeep. It’s the ac system keeping the temperature at the desired setting”. @JeepCares has made a ticket # and I was told someone would contact me to make sure I was taken care of. No one called and I’m waiting to see what the dealership says about the ac.

Ugh. This is what i figured would happen and why i haven't started the process of taking it in yet :-(

If this is truly the way it’s designed that’s ridiculous, why would they just not have the compressor cycle on/off to maintain the temp rather than pull in warm unconditioned air into the cabin, I am taking my JLU in this Monday for the cruise update and have a small list of issues they need to address and I am taking full advantage of the loaner car that will be provided by the case specialist that @JeepCares assigned me.

Well this is lovely... we have multiple people with the same problem and FCA is telling some of us this is "normal" and now an FCA rep is telling someone this is not normal.
I truly believe this is happening to everyone and either they don't notice, they don't care or they are trying to have it addressed. As summer continues I think more people are going to become aware of this problem.
When I had my appointment the service manager said the FCA rep is WELL AWARE of this problem even though, before I told him about it, he had never heard of it from anyone. FCA was so aware of it that within 1 hour of having my service appointment logged with this issue and having the HVAC software updated the manager got a call. He said that's kind of creepy because it means they are monitoring the service system looking for A/C flags.
The FCA rep called the dealership, asked to speak to the service manager and immediately asked him what I was experiencing. Once he confirmed what I was experiencing the BS explanation was given to make it sound "normal".

As long as they can say this is normal by design they don't have to do anything about it. It is very possible that some dumba$$ engineer thought letting hot unconditioned air into the Jeep was a good idea. Probably the same dumba$$ that made ESS on by default.

I truly don’t understand why Jeep engineers would go through the trouble and cost of designing a separate inlet damper to allow outside air to be ducted through the footwell vents. This sounds like a completely separate system from the HVAC and totally unnecessary. If Jeep was truly worried about cabin O2 levels with recirc on, the easy solution would be to have the software turn off the recirc periodically. This would allow fresh O2 and maintain cabin temp.

Please find this damper and see if it can be disabled.

I would love to hear an honest explanation from Jeep.

Well that was my theory and after climbing around I realized if there is one it isn't anywhere that's easy to see. The reason I don't believe it is a simple opening of the recirc door is because when I do that it isn't the same hot blast of air. None of us on here can replicate the hot blast of air. We have tried recirc on, recirc off, max a/c on, regular a/c, auto a/c... nothing reproduces the hot blast. Since you can tell the blast feels more like a window being opened in terms of how hot and humid the air is it lead me to believe there is a damper going directly to the outside that is being opened.

I believe you are correct. Now we just need proof that it exists since Jeep is playing dumb.

Does the air seem to blow from the actual footwell vents or might it come from somewhere else? Is it on both driver and passenger footwells?

Good luck with that, my service tech laughed when I showed him the pm with the “case number” and to this date no one from @JeepCares has responded to me.

I noticed mine coming from above my feet on the passenger side.

Same problem and we have experienced "no cool air" for 5-10 miles after first start up (engine not fully warmed). Nornal day (about 60 degrees F.) and all we can get is increasingly hot air from the dash vents. If I pull over, stop, shut off the engine and then restart, it will make cold air after another minute or two.

This is not an every-time occurence and seems to have nothing to do with outside temp. It does not act like anything is stuck...it just acts like it went "stupid". Adjusting temp to max cold does not help.

Waiting on dealer call for a different issue (part ordered), so we will write it up at that visit.

I remember reading a comment about feeling air in the glove box. Wondering if you open the glove box and feel around next time it happens. Maybe air is entering near the cabin filters or maybe it is being ducted into the footwell vents bypassing the evaporator.

Have to wonder if it turns out to be by design whether this is a FIAT design that has been implemented in other models.

Well I’ll check when I get my Jeep back, the dealership has had it since 7:30am yesterday to do the cruise recall , ac issue and some other things.
