I am planning to buy the Smittybilt 98495 XRC-9.5 Gen2 Winch. I'm just confused which mount plate (if any) I need to use with the factory steel bumper. I have seen people mention the
- warn winch plate/mount
- jcr winch plate/mount
- rugged ridge winch plate/mount.

Which would you recommend to me? Thanks!

You need one. All should work, but some sit the winch higher than others...maybe less than an inch though. I've got a Warn Winch with a Warn winch plate.

Saw some comments about certain winches being "too big" for a given plate/mount. Can anyone confirm which of these will work with the Smittybilt winch?

Probably good with most any of those. I went with JCR for their mounting plate, bull bar, and skid plate. They had a great sale during Black Friday. I’m happy with it all. Very heavy duty and quality material. Everything fit as it should, which is good since they were in early on the JL stuff.

I just bought the Maximus-3 winch plate, It has very good reviews and great customer service.

I went with this one as well and it is beefy! I have a Smitty 10k X2O mounted to it and it works perfectly.

I am sure the others mentioned above are great as well but I have heard from some of the members in my club the JCR one flexes a lot when hard pulling, I havent seen it first hand so I cant confirm so take this with a grain of salt.

I have the Warn winch plate, if I were to do it again I would choose another with the smittibilt x20 gen2 comp. It sits too close to the grill for my taste. Not enough room for a neoprene cover to go on with it. I had to notch the cover to fit as the back of the winch where the wires go is pretty close to touching. I would prefer it to sit a little further forward.
