Which hard top removal device would you recommend?

Thinking of getting the Harken now - hopefully my JL arrives within the next 30 days. Given that I don't have my Jeep just yet may I ask for the dimensions you used for the hoist? What is the width and length (front to back) on your hoist points?

I'm partial to the Freedom Jack, which I think deserves honorable mention in any thread that deals with getting a hard top off and storing it.

Engine cranes, sold separately, (you only need a 1, not a 2 ton one) seem to be forever going on sale at Harbor Freight.

Don't try taking any of the aforementioned devices (Top Lift Pro, Hoist a Cart, etc.) on anything but pavement.

I wonder why Jeep doesn't offer an official lift?

As I started my search I found that Top Lift gizmo. I thought that looks great for me, but it will probably be way overpriced and braced myself for a $600 price tag.

When I pulled up the site I about fell out of my chair and literally said 6 words out loud.

The price is unfortunate.

Harken hoist. I have the hoist points are 48" square. They were a little narrower in my previous garage, but I find this to work a little better. I have a simple wood platform for the soft top and some other storage I clip to the paracord ends when the hard top is on the Jeep (winter).

That looks like the same lift I have.

So looks like it will hold some weight. Website says maximum working load is 145lbs. I have a Rhino Rack back bone and pioneer platform. Wonder if it will hold all of that. Not sure what the hard top weighs though.

Jury rigged setup for now using basement hardware - going to look into motorized options.

Received my Top LIft last week and assembled it in a few hours. It works good for me because I have limited space. I can raise it enough to garage my GMC 2500 HD if necessary. I agree it is pricey

I really like mine. Price is high but nothing hanging from ceiling etc.

Since I finally hit built status I went ahead and ordered the Harken Hoist. Since I want to maximize any hard top off time that I can I am going to install as soon as I receive it. I plan to set up the pulley points 48 inches wide and 48 inches front to back so I can pop the top off the first day I get her home. Will share my experience installing it.

One more question for those with both tops - do any of you use your lift to store the soft top in the winter? I planned 2 large wall hooks to hang the soft top in the winter.
