Bottom one. That top plug is above the centerline of the axle tube. Way too much oil. Seals may leak with that much oil.

Nice that it will hold more than 2 QTs. FCA reduced the oil capacity from the JK series with these new Advantek axles. With an OEM cover, my rear only holds 1.6QTs.

Top is the fill plug. Bottom is the "level plug". Take both plugs out. Fill in the top hole until it starts coming out the bottom. Replace both plugs.

Supposedly, you can check the level easier as you're filling that way.

Where’d you get the bags!? I like the looks of that.

Edit: a quick Google search helped me out but thanks for the inspirational photo. I did not know mankind had come that far. Bottles have always been a struggle without a pump around.

Bought them on Amazon, Valvoline brand but other brands make the bags as well. I kept the used bags incase I can't find them in the future. Works well recommend if your preferred brand comes in bags!

Here is what Dana says:

Hello Ted,

Thank you for you question.

The upper hole is used for the initial fill after a service/repair or new axle install. This allows for enough fluid to properly fill a small reservoir used to properly lubricate the pinion gear bearings. The lower hole is used for checking levels in-between scheduled services.

Sincerely,
