In Colorado here. I got a big shock as this is my first new car in CO after moving here from Florida about a year ago. Just north of $1k to register my '19 JLUR! Guess you gotta pay to play out here!
My 2018 JLUR just renewed in Montana for @250. Zero sales tax. If it get to be 10 years old it goes to about $150 for permanent plates. Property tax is high but no personal prop tax in most instances.
South Carolina - Sales tax is 5% or $500, whichever is less. Registration is ~ $30 per year. Property tax are where they get you - on a new jeep ~ $1000 per year, gradually going down. On my wife's van thats worth $13K or so the property taxes are $150/year.
Massachusetts registration fee is $60 every two years (I believe). But each year we have to pay an excise tax on the vehicle or our registration is revoked. My excise bill was $1200. So in total the real registration fee for me each year is about $1200-$1260.
This plus 6.35% sales tax or 7.75% if 50K, or above. Hard top would have put me over, so got the soft top and no luxury tax. Looking forward to about $1200 more when property tax is due...
