Not sure what the mindset was when they put an angle on the inside of all the fenders where they meet the body. It is a big funnel for debris and not easy to get it out. Leaves and trash accumulate here pretty easily. It fills up as fast as I clean it out.

That does look a little crazy! I can see in 2038, people on jeep forums will be warning others buying ā€˜oldā€™ JLs to always check for rust on the body there, and quadratec will make a mint selling replacement or patch panels ;)

Aren't the body panels aluminum?

I have seen videos of people going over the changes in the JL where the hood, doors, windshield frame, and tailgate are all aluminum. I saw one that stated the fenders are as well but I am not sure about that.

I would like to know if the fenders are actually aluminum or steel myself.

I've ordered some fender welting to help prevent this. Now all I need is my JL lol.

I have been thinking about doing the same with the fender welting.... if you look at old VW bugs it is the rubber between the fenders and body. Looks a lot like weather stripping or piping on leather seats.

FWIW, every car as spots like this that collect something. Some are just more noticeable than others. This is another part of the reason I went with the black fender flares instead of painted. At some point I will probably find a nice set of aluminum flares and put a rhino type coating on them. You could also do a strip of Xpel where the 2 meet. This would protect the paint and probably fill the gap enough to help keep small things front lodging in there.

Yes! And with all the trees blooming, it's been collecting buds, pollen, and other nasty crap

It's a first world problem that annoys me also. Was washing mine the other day and noticed the same thing of various plant pollen pods and debris sticking in that crevice. Took some high pressure water spray to get it cleaned. I can see it being a potential corrosion issue in the future.
