We got a clear weather report around Denali yesterday and decided to go explore the foothills. It turns out you can go far enough on 4 wheels from Petersville, AK to cross the park boundary and find the best views of the mountains to be had outside of an airplane. I’ve had the privilege of wheeling quite a bit of the last frontier in the JLURD, but this trail is easily the most impressive I’ve ever driven. For anyone who makes the trek to this area, do not miss it. PM me if you want to see the drone video on my IG.

Alaska *is* my bucket list (and not on a cruise ship). Thanks for the photos!
You could spend a lifetime seeing all of the superlative places in this state. The fact that it all exists in a free state makes it that much sweeter :like:

I was tentatively planning a trip from Denver to anchorage in the Jeep for right about now. Then, a pesky little thing called COVID got in the way and then borders Closed. Whoops. Maybe next year......

Yea the Canadian border gendarmes get more deplorable every time we go through. Let me know when you make it up here and I’ll point you to the best spots, maybe wheel a couple trails with you.

That is VERY kind, thank you.

my tentative plan would be to take a 4-6 weeks for the trip (early retiree here). About a week up there and a week back and 2-4 weeks in the “Anchorage” Area.

I will let you know if we get the trip together next year!

In 2-4 weeks, you can easily catch the highlights from Homer to Deadhorse.

Thanks for posting these. Years ago I knew three young guys in mechanic school in Denver that drove down from Alaska for the 9 month trade school course. They were admitted Air Force brats that moved there with family and fell in love with Alaska. You could hear it in every word they spoke.

I’ve had the good fortune of traveling all over the globe...AK is truly in a league of its own. It doesn’t even seem like real life most of the time.
