late to the party, never torque any wheel nuts at 130, alway do 110 who is 20+ from the recommended 90. As for the spare I just make sure it is tight, got one grease monkey one day torqueing the shit out of the spare and I ended up getting the stud out of the tire carrier

Guys, so a 3/8 impact wrench with torque upto 450 foot pounds is good enough for these lug nuts, right?

Since the thread is back. Maybe I’m misunderstanding. Regarding the Jeep Jl/JLU where are you seeing 90 or 110 foot pounds as the recommended torque spec rather than 130 foot pounds?

Was not aware of the 130 as I torqued 110 for age and not really plan to move to 130 as I do not see the reason for that one.

I was recently told the JK wheel studs were a smaller diameter and, if true, wondered if that was where your numbers came from. Thanks

Why would Jeep state 130 ft/lbs if they didn’t mean it? The number doesn’t come from nowhere. Using anything less makes you a test pilot.

"not aware"? did you never RTFM?

"do not see the reason" to torque to factory specs? if you're serious, that's scary.
Did not read cover to cover, something as not reading the instruction each time I buy new hand soap.
This is lug nuts nothing scary here. As other have pointed out, what if my aftermarket wheels and nuts say to go 90 what should I do who is winning here ?

Changing tire twice a years for the last 30+ years, started by using the factory equipment to change wheels and back them was a portion of my weight on the bar for torque spec. Over the year I added floor jack, impact wrench and so on. I only started double check my number maybe 10 years ago. Back than the general consensus was get around 100. I think we need a poll asking how many validate their torque spec each time they change their tires.

For some here, be thankful you don’t only drive a Prius. Just trying to be inclusive.

I don’t do polls, but I rotate my tires 3 times per year and always use a torque wrench to check lug nuts before and after going off road. I’m admittedly overly cautious but it takes very little time. Always with a torque wrench and always to factory torque specs. My hands aren’t calibrated lIke some people here and it’s just my OCD habit I guess.

I have been rotating my own tires since the 70's and I always use a torq wrench...I rotate every 2500-3000 miles and actually swap between two sets of tires so get changed even more often but always use a torq wrench...doesn't really add any more time to the process and makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I used a torq wench on the 3.6 oil filter cap but not on the drain plug....I have a dainty little in/lb torq wrench that is probably one of the most expensive and prized tools i have lol....I can fudge a bit on high torq bolts because i have a good feel for it but on low inch/lb stuff I like to use a torq wrench.

for the record a Ram Power Wagon uses the same lug size and that calls for 140 ft/lbs
