So I decided to install wheel spacers. The only times I’ve been worried were when I thought I was gonna tip over, plus I like the look of a wide stance.
Researched it; definitely not a place to pinch pennies.
Ordered Spidertrax. Wrong ones. JK has same bolt pattern, but smaller studs.
Returned them, ordered new ones.
Also ordered a deep 22mm socket. Thought I’d be smart and get a heavy-duty impact one.
Doesn’t fit in the holes in the spacers.
Borrowed a short 22mm from neighbor. Installed a spacer. Turned all 5 nuts in finger tight. With red loctite.
Went to tighten up. Short socket lost purchase just as things snugged up.
Began removing nuts. Socket barely grabbing nuts.
Then the red loctite started setting up. Hard. Finally got it apart.
Gave up for the day.
I think I’ve done everything wrong that can be done wrong, and hope for clear sailing when I get a deep thinwall socket Monday morning.
A mechanic I’m not.

You just need to research a bit more before taking on projects. But hang in there; the process is half the fun.

I’d recommend you watch the YouTube video another member posted. I’d also recommend you reach out to the company directly, they can answer your questions better thank anyone. Don’t forget many companies still take phone orders. Always take a look at the instructions, make sure you have everything you need, parts and tools. This will ensure you can complete the job correctly and safely. Keep at it, and best of luck.

Gotta start somewhere @brazos! I haven't been anywhere near that adventurous with learning-by-doing on mine (maybe some day ;)). You got some big ol' cojones, bad ass!

Got her done today. Learned a ton.
Little by little, I reckon. I don’t really mind paying $110/hour if I can be confident that I’m getting a competent mechanic working on my rig, but recent experience indicates that I’m more likely to pay that princely sum for a drug-addled teenager to make things worse.
Time to step up, I reckon.

@brazos , any chance you can post pic of finished product?

Sure. Tomorrow. Ah’m tahrd.
Edit: I did post a few not-very-good pics on the “What did you do” thread, but I’ll do better here tomorrow.
I thought this thread was dead.

Looks good! What size spacers did you go with?

Spidertrax 1.75”. I ordered 1.5” first, but they didn’t fit. They’re for JK and others. The JL has longer studs, hence the extra1/4”.
Also beefier studs, torqued to 130# instead of 90#. That was comforting to me.
