I'm narrowing down my choices for wheels for my JL. Sport S, no lift - I'm planning on going with either 285/70/17 or 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country ATIII's for the tires. I've narrowed down the wheel choices to the Method 316, Method 704, Fuel Shok D665 or Vision 351 Flow. Either titanium or gray, to go with my Sting Gray JL. I'm seeing lots of good reviews and info on the Method brand wheels. How does Fuel and Vision compare as far as quality? The Method 316 is running $199 a wheel, the others are all in the $240 to $265 range so they're comparable. I only plan on buying once so I don't want to buy wheels that I don't like and have to buy something else down the road. I'm figuring probably going with a 0 offset, just need to grab a measurement on the existing 245's to see how much more the 285's would stick out under the fender. Any thoughts, experience or comments? Thanks.

I have Vision Nemesis on my 2018. Got them due to them being a bit lighter than others, looks, and features (has a removable rash ring). I've had no issues with them over the last year while running 37's on them. The Trail Grappler's I have mounted on them have balanced very well, taking very little weight and have low road force balancing numbers. I believe it was between 2-4 ounces and RF numbers between 19-22 lbs. Based upon how that tire/wheel combo has balanced, I would say they are well made and run very true.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
All nice choices, I like fewer spokes (easier to clean and always been a fan of 5 or 6 spoke sets).
So my vote is the Fuel as long as the offset is good. I'd shoot for a +10 give or take a few mm.

Dang Brad, I was going to say the same only using different words. Like you I prefer fewer spokes for ease of cleaning.

Skip, I'm of no use in helping you pick. I like them all. :)

If you like them all, go for the one that is (materially) lighter if there is a weight difference.

Only problem I'm finding is with the 285's the Methods are 0 offset so the tires will poke out up to .8". The Fuel is either +1 or -12. The -12 sticks way out, 1.27" according to the offset calculator. The Vision is either -12 or +30. Same thing with the -12 as the Fuel, going +30 moves the tire in almost 2" and just over 1/4" further in than stock on the outside. If I go with the 265 instead of the 285 then the 0 offset puts me .4 further out and .4 further in. I wanted to go a little taller with the 285 but I really don't want the tires sticking out past the fenders so maybe I just suck it up and go with the 265's, even though they're only .10" taller than stock 245's. I thought about going to 18" wheels as this will give me more options on the tires, like 255/70 and 275/65 but the 18" wheels limit me to just Fuel. I know I want a gray/titanium wheel and I don't want a beadlock/simulated beadlock, that's why I picked the ones above. Decisions, decisions.....:headbang:

Oh, wait a minute - EDIT - just found that Fuel offers the 18" with a +20 offset, calculator for the 275/65/18 shows it with the outside just .19" further in but it moves the inside 1.39" further in. How much room is there to move the tires in before they start rubbing and encroaching on suspension parts or the frame?

The lighter the wheel, the better. Also, the JL hub size is 71.5 mm. As a secondary consideration, if any of these wheels match then I'd go with that one but larger is okay, too.

+1

It’s a minor chore to wipe off the brake dust in between the spokes. But if the wheel itself is dark then the brake dust and grime may not be so noticeable.

IMO I'd stick with 17s, more wheel & tire availability and a bit taller sidewall.
Here's my fit at the fender edge w/ 295/70/17s on a 17x8.5 +10, if you went with a 285 you'd be about a 1/4" in from my set if you find a +10 offset.

Don't know if you've seen these but have a nice look and a +10 offset, According to the Quadratec specs these have a shipping weight of 31 lbs vs the Method wheel that's at 41 lbs.

Thanks Brad, the photo of your Sting Gray helps a lot. It's a lot better to see the real thing rather than using the online calculator. What wheels are you running? The Quadratec/Rugged Ridge wheels look interesting, I'll have to take a look at them.

Here you go Skip, just to show different lift/fender changes. The wheels are ATX Ravine (no longer available)
Bone stock, w/ new wheels/tires, w/ Rubicon suspension swap, then high fender kit. The good thing about the last photo, you can easily run 35s but still keep a lower center of gravity :)

Skip, I am in the same dilemma. What did you end up choosing?

Nothing yet....I think I'm going to hold out for the Vision 351 Flow in grey. They have a +30 offset so they're reasonably close to OEM. The Commander in Chief won't release the funding for new tires until I wear out the ones that came on the JL....... If you see black marks on the road in front of my house I have no idea how they got there.
