I saw a CJ on the road today and it had a gas can mounting configuration, where the gas can was mounted in front of the driver's side door, by the cowl. I thought it was a pretty cool location and it got me thinking...where do I want to have my gas/water cans (on my soon to be delivered JL)?

So how about you guys? What are your guys' gas/water can mounting configurations? Any particular strategy as to why you chose that location on your rig?

BONUS POINTS: if you can share pics of your mounting configuration.

Cheers!

Is this similar to what you saw: http://www.retrofitoffroad.com/shop...015/jeep-jk-side-mount-jerry-can-driver-side/ ?

That's a neat, relatively unused place to put your can, but I like Jerry cans in places on the rig less likely to take direct impact in a traffic accident (that is if they're holding gasoline and not water.) True, you can load them up at the gas station nearest your off road site.

Up top on a roof rack is good, but it can be a challenge to get the cans on and off, https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/434175220310927054/. Then again, with a manual or cheap electric pump, loading your tank from jerry cans above should be doable without removing them.

(BTW: shameless plug for my DIY roof rack given the limited number of options available options in the market currently: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/diy-no-hole-roof-rails.10580/#post-253825 )

I like the devices that connect on to the spare or a 2" receiver hitch up high, but in the case of the former, it would probably make sense to reinforce your tail gate first (kits available on the internet) https://www.extremeterrain.com/lod-...-jerry-can-mount-textured-black-0717-jk.html? You may want the receiver hitch for something else,

Remember or note: gasoline's about 6 pounds a gallon. So work on that upper body strength! ;)

Here's an interesting place to store water (the bumper) and deliver it pressurized (via on board pump)

Thanks for sharing the links! BTW your DIY roof rack is awesome. I have a soft top coming, so I'm also looking on the market for a roof rack option.

I made holders on my 06 TJ, so depending on the tire swing I get, I may do the same...

I'm a big fan of the textured look. Is that bed liner? Also, digging the color, it goes well with the black. Super cool.

The texture is very similar to a bedliner, but it's actually powdercoated. It originally came powdercoated, but to weld the bars on to the side, I had to grind off some of the texture, so I had to have the tireswing re-powdercoated. Thanks! It was actually the gfs idea... I initially didn't think I would like it, but it eventually grew on me lol

I wasnt planning on running a spare so built this. Setup for two rotopax and moves the plate to the center. The plate is on a hinge so it flips up if you need to access the rotopax. Used a rigid chase light for the third brake light and plate light as well as a backup light.

i'm keeping my gas can in the factory location which is under the jeep. my water can can either be in the cup holder or between the legs.

kidding aside, there is a member here that made custom mounts that holds his cans just behind the front fender area.
