It’s not so much the housing or the outers that is the weak point. It’s the smaller ring and pinion and the internals of the small diffs. Narrow housings require more wheel backspace which is harder on bearing. But as I said you can wheel any of them but it’s best to know and plan ahead when purchasing your Jeep.
smaller internals on what, a d30?

dude idk what you're even going on about. Read my OP from weeks ago. You're arguing with yourself I think? It's pretty obvious everyone would get a rubi XR if they could. But my original inquiry was running 35s on a sport and wheeling. MANY seem to do it fine. Never once did I ask for advice on buying a new jeep for running 35s. And sorry if that sounds bad, I'm not intending too... I just don't get where this thread went to... are you trying to justify your purchase or something? lol

Also, how are the internals smaller on a d44 regular and a d44 wide?
I was answering to the other posters comment in this case.

Fair enough. And when you said smaller internals, I’m assuming you meant the d30 diff?

Yes ring, pinion, spiders and case are all smaller. Normally the weak link becomes the pinion as you regear. The lower the gear the smaller the pinion.

Gotcha. Just wanted to clarify if you meant just the 30.

Smaller internals in the M186 (new D30) then the the old D30 or the M210 (new D44)
So smaller than the new D44, but also an old d30? I always thought people said the new 30 was beefier than the old ones

Yes Smaller then all D44 newer and old. The new M187 (D30) has the same Ring and pinion as the JK D30 but it is bigger then the old pre 2007 D30. The carrier of the M187 is a bit smaller. However, the front housings of the JL are heavier then the JKs.

FWIW there are a bunch of JK guys that have successfully ran 37s on D30. Here is one…

^^ This.
Just lay off the skinny pedal. Most breaks are from gunning it too hard and a spinning wheel suddenly gaining too much traction. If you rock "crawl" the axles can handle a lot.

Having said that, 35s was the most I was willing to put on my JK sport lol. I wanted some more room for error (aka bad decisions).

They are. The biggest weakness in both the d44 and d30 were the 760x ujoints but those upgraded in the JK.

Also the JL axle is pretty high pinion.

You will notice d44 and d30s normally share the outer portions.

Yah the JKs were pretty basic. 1 D30 housing, 1 Rubi D44 front, 1 standard rear D44 and 1 Rubi D44 rear.
The JL line has complicated all this with wider axles and more variations. M210HD, M210 Rubi (wide), M210 std, M187, M200, M220 std and M220 Rubi (wide).

Of course we want that gearing but many seem to run 35s on the stock gearing (with an auto at least) just fine it seems with moderate wheeling.
My dealer confirmed that moving up to 35s on my 2021 JLUR would be supported.

The 4.10 transfer case is such an improvement over standard transfer cases.

Having front/rear lockers are a blessing in many situations, and the latest Mopar 2" lift.

I've done Moab trails at EJS up to 8 rating, without issues, just have to watch my line and finesse it.
