I've had a winch on my jeep for quite awhile and haven't needed it. Kinda disappointing until a recent trail ride. When we reached the end the path out was blocked by some bozo who'd parked his truck dead-center in front of the gate. I suppose he was surprised when he returned to find his truck wasn't where he left it So what's your best winch story?

I had a big tree branch in n the front yard that needed to be trimmed. Over the driveway and partially above the garage. I tied it off and used the winch to pull it away from the house so that it fell away from the house rather than on it as I cut it off with the chain saw.

Never used the winch to get unstuck for myself or anyone else yet.

I have spent quite a bit of time in hunting clubs, I was usually the only guy with a winch and we used it to put hunting houses up, feeders up, trees off of trails and tractors and ATVs out of muddy fields along with yanking an occasional truck out of the muck. Have also hoisted more than a few deer up to be dressed. Still carry shovel and axe to help with the fun stuff.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I used it to pick the front of my Jeep up. It was stuck in a huge rut that I was trying to cross. Could not just winch forward as the bumper was up against hard soil with no give. The tree saver was placed high in a tree and I winched the front of the Jeep up and out of the rut. The rut swollowed up my 37 in tires.

Great thing about having a winch, you can get inventive. Gives many options those without don't have

Then what? How did you drive forward or backward with a taut winch cable hanging from the tree suspending your front end in the air?

Probably not an unheard of story, but this past weekend, I was wheeling with a really awesome chopped FJ trail rig. He was playing on top of some boulders really close to a cliff edge, about 4 feet. Long story...well longer he high centered his rear and tried dragging it over causing the whole rear to lift about 4 1/2 feet and was close to rolling, I pulled the Jeep up as close as I could, winched his back end down and slowly released it as he pulled out(so to speak:giggle:). I've had the winch for 2 years and this was the first time I had to use it. I know there's back and forth about what to have for recovery gear but after this I believe a winch is a necessity, we would have had to daisy chain tow straps without it. There were 2 other Jeeps in our group and the FJ and I where the only ones with recovery gear.

Well.... a few years ago with my TJ Rubi, I used the winch to pull my second-story deck down and away from the house in prep for building a new deck. Worked like a champ.

It's intended purpose. The day after Christmas 2018 I had to winch off of Long Canyon in Moab since it was covered in snow covered ice.

It's crazy because after watching the video I was trying to talk myself out of the whole thing and went forward anyways.

I used two of my Jeeps with the winches to keep a tree I cut down that was next to my house I had in GA. I only had a narrow lane I could drop the tree in house both sides fence, power lines a tight zone for it. I had a bunch of doubters watching and betting on it falling wrong. I won.👍

I made her do a 5-way tire rotation on the Wrangler. 🤣
