It probably happened in Toledo when driving it on a salty road to a storage lot. Salt remained in place during times of high humidity…making the surface rust more pronounced. Just ask the dealer to spray rust neutralizer on the frame areas and rattle can thereafter. This is not worth pursuing action IMHO.

It's crazy that some manufacturers are still having a problem with rust in 2022 when Porsche solved their rust problem in the 1970s. yes, I know the difference between galvanized body parts and exposed metal)

Having said that, the first thing I do after every snow is get the undercarriage washed to get rid of the salt.

I agree with the comments posted. I live half the year in a salt environment and half in Florida. My components are much worse and I power wash the frame. If you can receive some compensation from the dealer or Jeep, take it, and have the painted spots repaired. In Arizona, I doubt it will occur again.

The facts are, will this rust really hurt anything...no IMO. But come on, this is a $80,000 Dollar Wrangler. Why should the OP have to accept it looking this way. It is brand new, somebody is responsible for the neglect, and or causing this!

No way that's even close to normal or okay. Definitely open the complaint. Good luck and report back.

Exactly! For that kind of money they'd be fixing it, or knocking off $$ for me to fix it.

Lol. Not a good vehicle to own if you're OCD about the undercarriage. Not abnormal by any means.

So let's review. The responses range from "perfectly normal" to "get your money back and report dealer". In only three pages. It's true what they say about opinions. They're worth exactly what you paid for them.

I mean ultimately it’s up to how much fuss OP wants to make. They’ll likely offer up something to make it go away but I’d be pretty happy with the under invoice pricing you paid. The suspension rust is no concern, the only thing remotely concerning is on the frame but I think you could easily remedy that. I would not be considering letting the Jeep go or anything drastic like that.

Hey all!

Looking for any recommendations or experience from similar situations. The pictures probably explain it well but here’s a bit of context for my 22’ JLUR 392 XR

(note I get rust is normal on exposed metal, and I could spray with some fluid film but this just doesn’t seem right and dealers agree.. but can’t help)

- Jeep ordered 10-14-21
- Jeep built 3-22-22 (per label on inside door)
- Jeep delivered to dealer 5-4-22 (was stuck in rail yard they said, dealer in Paris, KY)
- Dealer did ceramic coating, tints, applied hood decal.
- Jeep shipped from KY to Phoenix AZ, picked up at dealer on Friday 5/27, drove straight through the night in enclosed trailer arrived 5/28

Looked a couple days later underneath more closely and noticed surface rust, from about mid way up to the front. only 30 miles on her ;(

A couple spots on frame both sides, and lots of spots suspension. Joints, shocks, dif etc. The more I look the more I find. Seems like it sat in a puddle almost for a few weeks ha.

KY dealer felt really bad, said they should have noticed, and will pay for any sort of treatment I get done..

Took to AZ dealer, also said this is the worst they’ve seen on a new from factory jeep, nothing they can do because corrosion isn’t deep enough but HIGHLY recommended I file a claim with Chrysler. Obviously in general rust in AZ is very rare so they didn’t even have a good shop to suggest.

Does anyone think Chrysler will fork up a new front suspension?

Here’s a bunch of examples, and an exterior shot because in the end of LOVE this thing in every way minus my comments above

I would call that bad, regrettable, and on the worst side of acceptable, but still acceptable.

I just took delivery of my 392, and it was much much nicer. My guess is yours was picked for the random drive checks they do, and it sat in the outside lots which are dirt and it rained alot recently in East Michigan. I remember a few threads just like this when the 392 first came out and I was reading them all.

I just came across your post and, frankly, your 392 is in absolutely horrible condition. The amount of rust on it is disgraceful and it really does catastrophically depreciate and degrade the value of the vehicle.

I'm afraid that it's certain Stellawhatsis isn't really going to do anything to help you. You need to dump this vehicle onto the market and get rid of it as fast as you can before the problem worsens.

I can help. I'll give you $10K cash, right now, for that rusted out 392. I know; I'm taking a big risk, but, that's just the kind of guy I am. Don't waste time thanking me. Just let me know where you want me to send my check, for the full amount, directly from my personal account at the best bank in Hermosillo, and my team will be right there to pick up and relieve you of that horribly rusted out 392. And, you're welcome..

I see this as "Thanks so much for your hard earned NINETY THOUSAND DOLLARS, here's your filthy and rusty new Jeep, please come back soon"
It doesn't really matter if the OP is planning on taking it rock or mall crawling, you still expect a brand new vehicle to LOOK like a brand new vehicle.

It's just surface rust. 100% normal. Maybe it's a little early in its life, but after about 6 months in the world it would be there anyway unless you left it parked in a garage all the time and never drove it.
That doesn’t look like normal surface rust for a brand new vehicle.
I agree that the rust is “surface” rust technically just because it would be impossible for rust to penetrate in that short amount of time.

that rust is definitely excessive for a new car

that’s exactly what happens if you drive through salt/brine and then you let the vehicle sit. Usually salt is mostly washed away by driving on wet roads or by car washes. That looks like the salt sat on it for awhile.

it wouldn’t bother me on a 5 year old car, but it sure as hell would bother me on a brand new car.

But when the alternative is wait for another one, I’d probably suck it up and use it as an excuse to have everything under the vehicle rust treated.

Edit: just noticed OP is in arizona. i would be really pissed if I lived there since I’d expect to have a rust free vehicle long term.
