My JLUR is almost 4 years old and has over 20k miles on it and doesn't look like that and has less rust. Very likely someone drove that jeep on a salted road in slushy/rain conditions. Not just a mile or two...

If you were planning on having a garage queen/show car this would be a big issue. If it is intended to be used off-road, no big deal, IMO. Find a place that will put it on a lift and pressure wash it and call it a day.

Regarding the Ceramic Coating, have you dealt with this dealer before? I wouldn't trust any dealership detailing department to provide you value for your money with a coating.

Rust you say!?

In all seriousness, some of your steering components and such are to be expected. The frame rust is frustrating and shows that some areas were not coated properly with paint. Do some light sanding and then paint and you’ll be just fine.
Jeeps love rust! :like:

It's not as bad as so many others I've seen. Get some Amsoil HDMP and spray everything underneath and reapply every year or so; one can covers a JLU. I've used that stuff on all my Jeeps and other vehicles and kept rust halted/at-bay during my ownership. When I sold an old JK with a decade of IL salty-winters in its history, the underbody and frame still like it was just a year old. YMMV.

Working on being a burden to my children.
I've honestly never seen a brand new vehicle that dirty underneath, and I've owned 35 different vehicles over the years. Looks like somone drove through every mud puddle they could find in the brief 30 miles on the vehicle. Personally, I'd get under there and scrape off the surface rust and see what it looks like underneath before I pursued anything.
Just so happens my new JLURD was built the very same day (3/22) as Andrew's and mine was just as dirty...maybe dirtier (but at least no rust). I remember seeing a post of NChap89's new JL (see below pic) that had just arrived at the dealer and the exterior was completed splattered with the same 'chocolate milk' looking crap. It's pretty sad that Jeep releases vehicles in that condition.

You desert guys are hilarious... but also lucky... Here in the midwest that's the norm.

OP - maybe you should have purchased from a Southwest dealer. Anything in the midwest, rust belt, northeast, that sits in a lot for any amount of time will look like that.

I would probably just wire wheel the rust off the frame and hit it with something like a POR 15, maybe just the top coat stuff. IMO, the steering and driveline components will end up looking like that anyway. Any spots you rub on the trail will end up looking like that too. Sucks that it's premature, but I see no cause for alarm, just unsightly.

Hey all!

Looking for any recommendations or experience from similar situations. The pictures probably explain it well but here’s a bit of context for my 22’ JLUR 392 XR

(note I get rust is normal on exposed metal, and I could spray with some fluid film but this just doesn’t seem right and dealers agree.. but can’t help)

- Jeep ordered 10-14-21
- Jeep built 3-22-22 (per label on inside door)
- Jeep delivered to dealer 5-4-22 (was stuck in rail yard they said, dealer in Paris, KY)
- Dealer did ceramic coating, tints, applied hood decal.
- Jeep shipped from KY to Phoenix AZ, picked up at dealer on Friday 5/27, drove straight through the night in enclosed trailer arrived 5/28

Looked a couple days later underneath more closely and noticed surface rust, from about mid way up to the front. only 30 miles on her ;(

A couple spots on frame both sides, and lots of spots suspension. Joints, shocks, dif etc. The more I look the more I find. Seems like it sat in a puddle almost for a few weeks ha.

KY dealer felt really bad, said they should have noticed, and will pay for any sort of treatment I get done..

Took to AZ dealer, also said this is the worst they’ve seen on a new from factory jeep, nothing they can do because corrosion isn’t deep enough but HIGHLY recommended I file a claim with Chrysler. Obviously in general rust in AZ is very rare so they didn’t even have a good shop to suggest.

Does anyone think Chrysler will fork up a new front suspension?

Here’s a bunch of examples, and an exterior shot because in the end of LOVE this thing in every way minus my comments above

I agree that's unusual, maybe it was driven in the salt during testing??
The easy answer is to sell it on ebay or Barrett Jackson and double your money, then buy 2 more of them.

I dont think it's from sitting on the dealer lot...Its more likely from sitting in lots waiting to be shipped to the dealer. Most people with orders are picking their Jeeps up within a week or two. I don't think the pictures look too bad, though.

It looks like the lot boy might have done a little off roading with it. I've seen it first hand working at various dealerships. They'd fly through muddy puddles, or dirt lots with 4x4's on the way to parking them or on the way to having them cleaned before delivery. I've seen surface rust like that, it's not uncommon, especially in the northeast. However the dirty undercarriage would bother me. I rustproof my vehicles within a month of taking delivery of them. If you're not going to make an issue of it clean the undercarriage, let it dry and consider rustproofing it, or touch up and re-coat the areas of concern.
