Heard about GM shutting down like 8 of 15 plants due to the semiconductor shortage. Just wondering if Jeep resale prices will go even higher.

Everything is interconnected.

Toyota is also shutting down production for a few weeks.

JL Wrangler values have actually cooled off on the wholesale market quite a bit in the last month. They hit peak in April/May and are down significantly from those peaks.

I work in the auto industry. It is not just the semiconductor issue.

The auto parts supply industry is and has been global for many years.

There are still multiple products that are being hit hard because of COVID impact to work forces.

Some governments are placing strict limits on the number of hours that can be worked as well as the distances that workers can travel to work.

These items along with Material supply issues all adds us to a very fluid and challenging market for Auto Makers.

Basically all Auto makers are impacted in one way or another.

Do you work for Toyota or GM?

This is a typical glass half-full/half-empty scenario.

  • Half empty: Yes, Jeep production is feeling the pinch from the chip shortage.
  • Half full: You would be waiting 12-18 months if you ordered a Ford Bronco... 😫

Probably longer for the bronco. I’m on month 14 on It. So far 2 month wait for my 392 wrangler.

I work for Tier 1 OEM. The company name is Aisin.

We supply parts for Toyota, Lexus, GM, Honda, Acura, Daimler, Subaru, etc.
I think I have one of your manual transmissions in my Fiat 124 Spider. It’s pretty slick.

In support of what you're saying, an interesting article I read the other day:

Supply chains everywhere are in jeopardy. Both freight and raw material costs are skyrocketing. Discussing the actual rate of inflation is verboten; but in evidence everywhere. I do not expect used vehicle values to diminish any time soon, and being down an estimated 7 million new vehicles in 2021 (with more of the same expected in 2022 and possibly 2023), used car values will remain high for a long time.

The laws of Supply and Demand dictate this.

We are about to sell my wifes Grand Cherokee for a little more than we owe on it. A few years ago, this would never happen. I am half tempted to put the JLU up for sale just to see what happens.

I'll say one thing if Jeep raises prices even more then they already did I won't buy one. There prices were already high before the pandemic. They can keep them the same even with what's going on and still make a profit.

A general supply line slow down is also happening. I saw a report just the other night on cargo ships coming to America from foreign manufactures. An example was, 40 plus cargo ships are waiting to dock in LA., a major import point from Asia. Two looking for offloading berth is the norm.
