I do the same as most.

Cover the air intake.
Dry clean it, use a leaf blower and brushes to get all the dirt off.
Spray it with simple green, let it soak.
Rinse out the engine bay with low water pressure.
Rinse and repeat if need be.
Last step, use a car detailer. This brings back the deep black colors, it also gives your engine bay a protective layer. This will help prevent less mud from sticking next time.

Take cover off air intake.
User leaf blower to dry or just drive the jeep.

what exactly do you mean when you say “cover air intake” like with a plastic bag?

Years ago, I saw a post on a car detailing forum talking about using tire foam. Just spray everything down and let it dry. It works awesome for cleaning standard road grime and leaves a shine...and try he best part is it takes about 5 minutes.

I have been doing this for years after cleaning the engine area. Works great!

Keep it simple. Cover the alternator, battery and air intake with a towel or plastic bag. Use your hose without a spray nozzle and a light amount of pressure. Pre-rinse the engine then use whatever All Purpose Cleaner you like diluted between 3-5:1. Spray generously, let it sit for a few moments and use a brush on any bad areas. Your engine will look nearly brand new and this takes less then 10 minutes. I do this in the evening time to be safe and let it dry completely overnight.

Nobody covers the PDU? It is water resistant, not water proof.

I 100% agree with covering the alternator, battery and air intake as well.
