What Size Car Hauler Do You Tow Your Jeep With? Pics Please!

I ordered a new aluminum car hauler on Friday and I’m having size regrets. It’s a ‘20 + ‘2 H&H full aluminum. I optioned it with a winch which will use up about ‘1 of space. My Jeep is a 392 JLU with the AEV up fit. Weight without me in it is 5,720 lbs. I optioned the trailer with 14k axles. From my research most people recommend going a little bigger to allow some room to adjust tongue weight and better leverage with tie downs. The other option is ‘18 + ‘2. I’ll save about 150 lbs. What’s everyone think? Going in on Monday to change order if i decide to.

If I were ordering a trailer just to haul the Jeep I would get the smallest deck that would fit the Jeep but with a pair of 7,000 lb axles.
My last trailer was a 20’ equipment hauler with 7k axles and weighed about 3,500 lbs empty, way overkill for Jeep but I never worried about axle or frame problems.

I have a slide in camper on a Ram Power Wagon. First trip is Death Valley in February, then EJS in April, followed by SW Colorado in late July and finishing this year off with the Rubicon in September.

My 30+10 hydra tail with three 15k electric over hydraulic axles might be a little overkill for some.

I have a R&R aluminium 16’ car hauler that worked just beautiful when I picked up my Christmas present, a JLURD FarOut edition last month. I usually have the engine in the back of the trailer to keep it as balanced as possible and keep the tongue weight down.

I was looking last year but in my area the vehicle specific haulers were way over priced for 102" wide and hard to find ($14-16k non aluminum). I ended up with an 18' equipment trailer, drive over fenders with a 14k GVWR out the door for $10k. A little over kill but my jeep is heavy and rather have plenty of wiggle room.

Not overkill at all.....

• Larger brakes and drums
• Heavier springs
• Heavier bearings
• Heavier spindles
• Larger capacity tires
• Heavier and more durable frame

Always heard many complaining about too little trailer, but never anyone complain about too much trailer.

22’ Enclosed EZ Hauler (same as Stealth), extra height. I guess you could go shorter, but I like a little room for bikes/dirtbikes up front. All aluminum, 10k rated. I may have to get wider axles when I go to 1 tons on the Jeep, and if so, I’ll upgrade to 6 or 7k axles.

Jeeps are flat towable so just put the transfer case in neutral and use a tow bar. You can add a baseplate to the Jeep to attach the tow bar to. If you have an aftermarket steel bumper then you can get adapters for the front D ring attachment points to attach the tow bar at.

I picked up a 18' tilt 15K trailer today from Appalachian Trailers in PA. They gave me the best deal for a new trailer.
I do have a question though. What tie down (tire/axle)straps are you guys/gals using? I am still searching.

Can’t tell by looking at the picture, but does it have stake pockets only....or a rub rail and stake pockets?
