I want to pack a recovery shovel and there are too many options on line and reviews are all over. I want something usable (right size) and good quality. I am sure some of you have figure this out. Your advise will be appreciated.

I think just about any military entrenching tool will do the trick. They are sturdy, compact, and relatively lightweight. I've been using a Glock entrenching tool for years. With it, you can adjust the angle of the spade and it includes a small saw in the handle.

Thanks @XTrooper, I’ll check out the Glock. One thing I am frustrated searching on Amazon is that it doesn’t say where things are made. I rather not buy Chinese, any other nationality is fine by me. My only concern with the foldable ones is size, they seen too small.

Well, when I bought my Glock version it was manufactured in Austria and was the Austrian Army's issued entrenching tool. I don't know for sure about today, but I think we can be pretty damn sure isn't being made in China. :like:

I’ve had one of these for years. Saw it as Bass Pro and bought it on a whim. Never used it as a recovery shovel, but it sure comes in handy at the beach when my daughter wants to build sand castles. It’s very durable. Strong enough for tough soil and rocks. Wash it off, hit it with WD40 and back it goes into the pouch.

Now if you know you’re gonna get stuck, I’d recommend a long handled wooden shovel. But that’s not something you’d carry every day.

Sorry for the QUICK PICS in my low light garage, but I use two different shovels--one for rocky trips and one or the desert sand-

The MILITARY BACKPACK shovels are way to small--to uncomfortable--
