What kind of off-roading can I do in a stock JLU Sahara?

I have had my Sahara for a few months with no spare funds for mods like tires, lift, etc. so it is still all stock. I would like to do some light off-roading just to get a taste of what the Jeep is capable of. With stock 18" wheels and the stock All Season tires, what can I do and what shouldn't I do when it comes to off-roading? (I'm sure rock crawling is out of the question! lol) Also, if anyone has any SoCal spots where I can try this, I am all ears!

We rented a stock Sahara while on vacation in Arizona. We did Schnebly Hill and Table Mesa, both Jeep Badge of honor trails. We didn’t bottom out at any point.

You definitely don’t need a lift and bigger tires to have fun out in the woods! 😁

In SoCal it’s relatively easy to find something. Tons of runs through the desert don’t require anything other than a regular Jeep. My friends father runs the trails in a Willy. Look towards the hi-desert roundup each year, they have runs built just for you by Barstow.

Awesome! That's not too far away. I just Googled some OHV areas and there are lots, including Stoddard Wells by Barstow. Going to start making some weekend plans soon!

Nice! Was this with stock All Season tires or All Terrain?
Stock tires. I took this picture when we picked up just in case they tried to blame me later. I should also say the trails didn’t curb any of the rims either! I returned the Jeep just as good as I got it! I was surprised how well it did.

Good to know that the All Seasons can handle some light off-roading!

Since you are in Los Angeles, I’d take the stock Sahara to Cleghorn Mountain: the main trail is relatively easy, with more challenging spurs shooting off the main trail in every direction.

As long as you stick to the main trail you should be fine. The vistas from up there are just awesome.

Adding that to my list, thanks!
And don’t forget to air down. If you don’t have an air compressor, you can air up at the Chevron gas station right off I-5, at the foot of the mountain.

Yeah lots of easy fire roads all over the place. I bottomed out my wife’s Sahara pretty bad a few times. Took out a big chuck of the plastic bumper too but she got us through the trail. Now I’m in my 392 with 37s. Complete different story. Hit me up and we can go run some trails together. I’m less than a year new to the Jeep world.

A good driver in a Sahara or Sport can do more than a bad driver in a Rubicon. My first day of ownership, I took a trail that scared me on my 95 Cherokee without sweating it,, not a difficult trai at all but involved a steep windy bit on rough narrow bedrock trail on the edge of the mountain dropoff, littered with small rocks with ruts and v's, up to a foot give or take 6" either way to get to this spot near home. Got a bit of fender rub and one underbody grind. On stock road tires. This is like, my 6th 4dw vehicle. All wranglers are very capable, imo.
