I believe it's to cover your windshield sensor when you fold down the windshield.

It's a cover meant to protect the camera and sensors associated with the advanced safety package, which is located in the middle top of the windshield, when the windshield is folded down.

Wow, they come up with everything. I guess it is like the review camera harness caps that came with my 2014 tundra to protect the connectors when the tailgate is removed. I've never removed my tailgate, so it's still in the original plastic bag after 8 years.

I wonder how many of these covers actually get used? I've been a lot of places and haven't seen any JLs with their windshield down yet. I have wanted to try to fold it down one weekend to say that I've done it and check it off of my Jeep bucket list.

That's probably all you'll do with it too. The fold down windshield usually isn't folded down again once you had your lesson in how functional windshields are.
But a rare few still do fold it down whenever possible. To each their own.
