what is this ring called on the flange of input shaft?

Found this ring was off (maybe it’s supposed to be like that?) on the front diff input flange. I can feel the driveline vibration. Took a bigass Channellock and not able to put it back. Never seen this part before, what exactly it is? It appears to be press fitted with rubber gasket..

Another difference with the 392. Not supposed to be cockeyed like that. Maybe a big c-clamp can straighten it out. As rare as it might be, if it can be moved with c-clamp it could be moved by a rock up against it.

i think mine was moved by a rock, cause I saw some rock chipping mark on the black ring. Will try two c clamp together tomorrow before seeking help from dealer….

It looks like a damper and it’s function might have been damaged. Even if you get it straight you should probably consult dealer just in case

It’s a vibration damper and it’s broken, needs replaced. There’s no fixing that.

I messed mine up on a rock and shop ended up just removing it altogether when I got regeared. No issues without it.

that works too. Being bent and out of center is going to cause some vibe at high speeds.

Driveline vibration gone. Went up to highway speed nothing felt.
