Does anyone know what this is? It is in front of the shifter on my automatic Rubicon. It's behind a little plastic door that snaps out.

That is your manual park release.

In order to push or tow the vehicle in cases where the transmission will not shift out of PARK (such as a dead battery), a Manual Park Release is available.

In case you have the electronic auto park issue, you pull that to "manually" put it into neutral. "Jeep Informant" on youtube did a nice video about it.

Without electronics working, you will never get Jeep into neutral using the shifter, say to load on a truck, push to side of highway, etc.

The orange strap allows you to mechanically place transmission into neutral instead of electronically.

So I guess I shouldn't have kept pulling it.

It’s in the manual. Something like pull until it clicks for neutral, then you have to pull again to release it.
Guess you’ll find out when you go to move your Jeep :giggle:

This^ I would suggest watching Jeep Informant's video on the subject because there is a right way and a wrong way to do this...

OOps, posted the wrong vid at first. This is the right one^
