I have a weird problem going on with the jeep. I'm currently 8 hrs in an 11 hr drive. The trip has been very windy but that is about all. My jl started making a metal on metal noise when I go from 70 mph and slow down in the front driver side wheel. Then once I get to a complete stop the noise will stop and not start up again till I get back up to speed. The noise is in my driver side wheel. I've stopped multiple times to look at it. I can hear it when I slow, and when I hit bumps and sometimes turn the wheel. Every thing seems to be working fine. I thought at first maybe a rock got lodged in between the pads and rotor but I hear it when I hit a bump and turn the wheel. It's weird that it will completely stop when I'm driving through the city but once back to 70 mph and then down I hear it. Any suggestions? I will be taking into dealer but there isn't one open till Tuesday. Sorry this is wordy. I also just spent my first night in the jeep!

What does the noise sound like? A hum like a wheel bearing? A scrape like metal touching rotating metal? A screech like a brake pad wear indicator? A clunk like a worn ball joint? Can you post a sound clip of it?

I will try to get a recording. It definitely sounds like metal on metal grind. Best to describe it is it sounds like a rock is between the pads and rotor and I figured that is what it was. I wasn't hearing anything at 70 mph. When I'm city driving nothing when I apply the brakes. Only when leaving the freeway and slowing for the first time I hear it. Heard it when I went over some bumps on freeway and I heard it when I was turning the wheel. Visual inspection things look fine. Tire wear is fine.

Could also be something with brake rotor splash shield or even a wheel bearing. Since it only seems to happen when you first past a certain speed threshold and that tells my a harmonic vibration issue.

Maybe it is the upper bolt of the shock that got slightly loose?

Hi nel1551,

Thank you for sharing this experience. We are sorry to hear that you have this concern. At this time, have you been able to take it the dealer for a diagnosis? Please send us a PM with your VIN, mileage, and dealer once you have an appointment.

I have a 2019 Wrangler Sahara turbo....with 1700 miles. I have been experiencing the same high frequency hum....At first it would hum until I shut the jeep off....it did this maybe 4 times....today the hum started again its continual. It does not matter what I set the Nav screen too....radiom heater, GPS etc...the hum is still there. When I shut the vehicle off....the hum continues until the vehicle completely shuts down. I contacted the jeep dealer 45 miles away. I have to wait until Wed....today is Thurs......the hum is so bad that its impossible to drive the jeep. Its not a radio related problem since if I shut the radio completely off the hum continues.

Sounds like itā€™s the ABS going off.

Update......the Jeep finally reset itself while turned off for a couple hours. There is no rhyme or reason to the problem. When I called the dealer today...he could hear the high frequency hum in the background...he said he had never heard of the problem. It does not matter if you are driving or stopped....once it starts humming it will not stop until the Jeep is turned off.

Your 2.0 Sahara has GPS so you have the 8.4" Infotainment with Alpine. You have Active Noise Canceling. I wonder if it has anything to do with that?

Make sure it's not something in the climate system. My blower motor whisttles a little in when on speed 3-4. Not to mention the engine cooling fan is LOUD when the A/C kicks on.

If the sound your hearring is a high frequency tone, that changes with RPM, then there is most likely a grounding issue in the radio, but typically if the radio is powered off you wont hear that.

The fan is off and the Jeep is parked in the driveway...everything is off except fit the engine running...no heater....no AC....radio off...

There is a TSB to adjust that loud a/c fan by the way.

There are no fans on...everything is turned off...itā€™s a mid range loud ...annoying hum....loud enough where u wouldnā€™t want to drive far....like I said...everything is turned of...I have an electronics background.....there is some sort of failed filter etc somewhere in the system...i have 1700 miles on the Jeep...I have driven 200 miles round trip....in the winter with the heater...fan etc running....no sound at all..r
I can be the next time and I get this loud hum....itā€™s electronic I am sure....
