^^^ this!

Jeep ought to offer a boxy crossover vehicle for those who want a Wrangler just for the looks.

On second thoughts, never mind. Jeep built it and it turned out a POS...

Turns out, a box without the capability of solid axles and body-and-frame construction is just not the same.
They need to make a convertible SUV that has chunky styling for all the fools who only buy a Wrangler because it's top comes off. Kind of how Ford did with the Bronco.

To be fair most of the criticism I've seen of the renegade was that it WASN'T a Wrangler... 🤷‍♂️
Same for the Bronco Sport...
My brother’s 2015 Renegade was in the shop every other week for miscellaneous issues.

They would still own it if it weren’t for the fact that it blew the 9-speed transmission the week after the warranty ended. That 9-speed is a sealed unit and cannot be rebuilt. I.e., it is disposable.

So he got a lemon.

One day on this forum will get you several people wailing about exploding radios and buyback JLs.

I've got more than a few, but one is, "less is more". A lot of people will agree, then say you need a 4" lift and 37" tires to get to the mercado, or you need 1,500 lbs of tools, 20 gallons of extra fuel, 10 rock-lights, a full surround sound light bar with 98 individual LEDs, and a king-sized mattress in the roof top tent if you want to make it across the mall parking lot.

For 95% of us, which is really closer to 100% of us, we can air down our 31" tires and have a blast, but as soon as we pull off the trail and see the poseur with the $90k rig we get penis-envy and start believing we're not going to make it home from the trail without portals. Too many Jeeps became custom car show vehicles and a bunch of keyboard cowboys keep telling us we're doing it wrong.
It’s alright. I’ve got some more Rubicon take off parts I can sell you.

And yet, people will still be lining up to buy a Wrangler...

Same with Renegades, same with F-150s and their exploding 2.7 liters.

Lack of options, really, pre-bronco. I actually thought I'd never, ever buy a Chrysler/FIAT/Whatever product and I wanted a 4runner prior to buying the Jeep. But in 2017 the JL was announced with all new technology and the 4runner was.. what, 10 years old or something with pretty trash technology. It has the same radio/touch screen system my 2006 Lexus IS350 had.. And that old guzzly slow engine.

I get it's a jeep and you should take the doors and top off, but c'mon its 105 degrees in TX, I know you are suffering in there.
Have you been rained in yet? I've had it happen once in the middle of a huge tunderstorm where I was trapped downtown in rush hour traffic. It was so embarassing sitting at stop lights getting drenched. Not to mention I was nervous about a lightning bolt hitting me while I'm sitting in a metal puddle of water.

I learned to never leave my freedom tops at home that day.

I don’t thing so. Renegade sales have been declining pretty much since it came out, and they sell with a hefty discount.

After what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t touch a Renegade with 10-foot pole. Even less a used one.

They still sell, just sayin. 🤷‍♂️

My point still remains, the most criticism I've seen on the Renegade is that its not a Wrangler.

Toyota creates its own “lack of options.”

4Runner is great for what it is, but is bland, lacks creativity and offers no excitement.

Toyota knows this and 140,000 buyers every year are clearly fine with it. So it doesn’t need to try any harder.

BTW, between 4Runner and Bronco, I’d take the Toyota over the Ford every day of the week.

4Runner knows exactly what it is and is not trying to be something it ain’t. No apologies needed.

Every time I see a Bronco driving around I can’t help think “that poor fool can’t even tell the joke is on him...”

I've owned one modern ford (a 2013 Escape) and it took me 2 hours to change the battery because it's under the windshield and I had to remove half of the engine bay to get to it. No more Fords for me. It also had idling problems along with window rollup/down problems. I've had those problems on EVERY Ford I've owned (3-4, Probes, Escorts).
