I wanted a diesel too until I saw the problems the rams were having with that engine. Now if it was a Cummins r28 it would be a done deal.Post why in the comments. I'm considering a diesel because I plan on making an overland build. I'm debating if the MPG/possible slight bump in reliability gains are really worth an expected 5k bump in price and more waiting though when I could just account for more fuel. What are you guys thinking?

Does any FCA vehicle that has the ecodiesel as an option, offer a manual transmission as an optional pairing as well? Ram 1500? Jeep GC?I'm holding out for the 3.0l in a 2 door Rubicon. hopefully available with the manual. I know, I know; I've read where it's only coming with the auto tranny and the JLU. Has there been any official word from FCA where this is a reality?
I wouldn't get too excited about the 2.0l turbo compared to the Pentastar. My wife's Mercedes '17 GLC300 4matic was just purchased with a 2.0l turbo with similar HP and torque as our outgoing GLK350 4matic V6. The V6 was hands down the better engine. The turbo is too high strung, not smooth. You need gradual power not instantaneous tire spinning mud slippery traction. Yes there will be traction control but when you're crawling over rocks you want smooth, even, easily applied torque. I guess the mall crawlers will be happy with the turbo.
What is that supposed to mean "that feels 1995"? I will be selecting the Pentastar if the diesel option for my requirements fall through.

exactlyNope
Can you find or know of a non-turbo V6 currently produced anywhere that exceeds 260 lbs/ft torque, at a usable low rpm? The Pentastar’s valve train has been redesigned with variable valve timing creating improved torque at lower rpm’s. By the way you don’t make Ward’s 10 best engine award 3 years in a row for 1990’s technology.260 lbs/ft of torque is very 1990s. Almost every six cylinder engine available was making that level of torque 20 years ago. The fact that after using the 3.8L V6 for 25 years, Jeep decided to replace it with one that only makes 20 lb/ft more is laughable.
Semantics.
My definition of wealthy is people who are in the upper class. The EcoDiesel Wranglers will cost most than the average annual salary of a U.S. worker, which means it'll only be accessible to the upper classes. The rich will be buying Mercedes G-Wagens.
I only see it on the 2017 list. Can you find or know of a non-turbo V6 currently produced anywhere that exceeds 260 lbs/ft torque, at a usable low rpm? ...and 90% of peak torque available just about everywhere in the powerband. I think this is a great engine and I can't wait to get my hands on it.Can you find or know of a non-turbo V6 currently produced anywhere that exceeds 260 lbs/ft torque, at a usable low rpm? 2011, 2012, 2013 for the old version of the engine, 2017 is for the updated Pacifica Hybrid version.I only see it on the 2017 list.
That Ward's list seems to have gotten heavily biased in favour of turbos/hybrids/electrics in the last few years.2011, 2012, 2013 for the old version of the engine, 2017 is for the updated Pacifica Hybrid version.
