Yes they still offer eAssist for 2018.

44lbft is great to get things started, but like I said before, remember that it’s efficacy diminishes as the RPMs climb, so that’s not 44lbft across the torque-curve/power-band, and I wouldn’t be suprised if technically that BSG is closer to 70+ lbft (100+ NM) for the very first instant of torque until about 0.1-0.2 seconds / ~200 RPM before the engine kicks in, but they likely quote a more conservative number, so as to not confuse people into thinking it’s always on-tap.
What would be the gain at idle speed, which I'm assuming is around ~700 RPM (correct me if I'm wrong). Because if you turn off ESS you'll be at idle speed off a start, am I right?

Are the figures you're citing off of a cold start i.e. 0 RPM?

What is it about electric that causes the boost to decline with RPMs? Is this true with all hybrids?

Would the 48V battery contribute to a more robust interior electrical system for better handling electronics like laptops, or camping equipment like refrigerated coolers? Running winches, compressors?
Sure you could do that and they do, but it’s not integral to achieving that specific , you could just do that with a better high amperage alternator and then localized inverters or step transformer/converters for a lot less money and weight. Now it does mean more storage than even a big deep-cycle 12V usually, but it’s also more expensive.

Now it does even out the load on the engine & alternator for higher draw and devices that have large peaks in them, so that is a benefit, but the engine still has to work more or longer in order to recharge the 48V battery, so again tradeoffs.

I guess what I'm asking is if there are any other side benefits of having the BSG 48V battery.
Sure, it can provide longer power to support systems, etc, but there are other ways of doing that to, the primary benefit is to the BSG itself, but since it’s required for that anyways, then might as well use it for other resources, so yes they do that too.

Yes, max torque is based on the number for a Cold Start (as would be the case for ESS) and also at the BSG itself. At idle speed then the efficacy is reduced, so the impact is less. And you add belt losses to that too, so the actual assist/boost number is usually nowhere near device Max.

So as a random number example, you might see a theoretical peak of like 120NM at start, and then a boost number closer to half that or less, and that boost number would be what you would see closer to idle and up to some point (~1500 RPM maybe?) before it starts tailing off to insignificant (maybe @ 3,000 RPM would be another fraction of the boost number).

This GMC guys says they stored the batteries for the eAssist underneath the console.

I hope that doesn't mean they shrank the console volume, cause if Jeep did that it's a dealbreaker for me...console space is already too small. I don't want this encroaching on interior space.

It’s essentially a property of electric motors, so yes, all Hybrids would act this way at some level, the difference would be the Starting ( called STALL) Torque and No Torque (called No Load) Speed and then the liner curve between the two, maximum power output is usually achieved somewhere in the middle.

This BSG/eAssist does sound like a solution to turbo lag though.

Yeah, and also perfect for that and for the 1/4-1/2 second delay for ESS to kick-in so you don’t die trying to make a turn into traffic etc.

One of the things they could do with the 48V supply would be an electrically assisted turbo/compressor, which would again further eliminate lag, but they aren’t cheap.

ps, I’m Audi 5000..

What is that supposed to mean "that feels 1995"? I will be selecting the Pentastar if the diesel option for my requirements fall through.
260 lbs/ft of torque is very 1990s. Almost every six cylinder engine available was making that level of torque 20 years ago. The fact that after using the 3.8L V6 for 25 years, Jeep decided to replace it with one that only makes 20 lb/ft more is laughable.

I think you’re confused, not only about the other stuff, but..

The Wealthy will get a custom build like the Rezvani , the Rich will get a HEMI, the Well-off will get the Eco-Diesel.

Semantics.

My definition of wealthy is people who are in the upper class. The EcoDiesel Wranglers will cost most than the average annual salary of a U.S. worker, which means it'll only be accessible to the upper classes. The rich will be buying Mercedes G-Wagens.

Where is the 2.0 Turbo storing the battery packs for the BSG system, and is it at the expense of any interior space?
