What engine do you plan on getting?

Funny, EVERY Jeeper I have EVER encountered with this engine, with whom Ive spoken, LOVES and raves about this engine. That's dozens of owners and friends, from Moab to the East Coast, and all in between, in Jeep clubs, and at Jeep rallys. Not 1 negative comment. Heavily modded Jeeps included. I've come across two with about 300,000 miles, both said they were trouble free. I've heard more complaints about the venerable Chevy 350 than this engine.

Rant on and exercise your prerogative to choose a different powerplant. I've already ordered mine, and await it with great anticipation. Fortunately, they will offer an unproven 2.0 turbo that you can enjoy.

Your probably dealing with guys that owned Jeeps before with the previous engine which is even worst. As someone who has owned a large verity of brands ( Jeep, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, BMW, Mini, Mistubishi, Lexus and Nissan) I can tell you the Pentastar is nothing great. It gets the job done but leaves a ton to be desired. I'm not going to get into my long list of complaints on here, as I have listed them out in other threads. But I can tell you right now if the Pentastar was the only option on the JLU & JT I would not be buying another Jeep.

Jeep went from a 4.0 I-6 that leaked like a sieve, got miserable fuel mileage, and had no horsepower to a 3.8 V6 that burned oil and ran out of breath at 4,000 RPM to a 3.6 V6 that spent it's first two years under TSBs and recalls. It's hardly been a bowl of cherries for Jeep owners.

When the day comes that we REALLY get an impressive engine, it'll blow guys away.

Yes, you brought the concept of bogus orders into the thread as an attempt to counter that it is not officially launched yet, and as if orders and an official launch/reveal were tied at the hip.



No, that would again be you moaning about FCA/Jeep’s process that is neither new, nor uncommon in the industry, and which obviously has worked to great success with this particular vehicle.

So if you’re going to get all worked up about it, then yes, it’s your lack of knowledge of the process and the industry that makes you think this is unusual or unacceptable on FCA’s part.

You throwing a fit and whining about it is, in and of itself, “very immature and childish”, precisely like a little kid questioning the choice of an adult/parent not to let them open their presents early because the adult wrapped their present so nicely/temptingly and made such a big deal about Xmas.

I asked you a simple question,"do you think all these new orders were bogus". What does that have to do with the vehicle being officially launched? You have the ability to twist topics into something that makes no sense.

I guess I will have to repeat myself yet again because you don't seem to get it. I understand extremely well the marketing campaign that car manufacturers do to attract and tease potential customers. FCA has no competition whatsoever concerning the Wrangler. The fact that the launch of the JL/JLU has been camouflaged to the hide it from who, the car maker out there that doesn't exist to steal their technology? The fact that they tell us the 4 new colors but give us no visual idea of what they look like. This is marketing in the case where it's not necessary in my opinion. So tell me what is the reason that they wouldn't be able to show us what the new colors look like? Is some other car manufacturer going to steal the name of FCA's original color name? I doubt it.

Let me give you an example of a car company that is intelligent enough not to upset it's customers by using unnecessary marketing. Porsche has been working on their Mission "E" electric vehicle for a couple of years now. It started as a concept and a prototype was just seen testing on the roads with very little camouflage about a month ago. it's expected to go into production in 2019. They did all this even though they have direct competition with Tesla and are not worried about their technology being compromised. That's the reasoning I'm referring to, I sincerely hope you can understand where I'm coming from now.

This is your problem right there. FCA didn’t tell any of us any of that officially yet, nor the other stuff you’re worked-up about.

We have a ton of leaks, confirmed leaks, spy photos, partial reveals at SEMA to a select audience, screen grabs of things like an ordering system being prepared for future options, and other NON-OFFICIAL information, that while helpful to people ordering now, still isn’t a responsability for FCA to clarify, expound upon or even address.

That is where you are getting it all wrong, and why the answer to this question should be obvious to you instead of complaining about things FCA hasn’t officially revealed yet.

What does that have to do with the vehicle being officially launched?

Can you understand that extremely crucial point right now?

This could be guerrilla marketing by FCA (as the conspiracies go), but again it would all still remain unofficial, so even if that was part of a marketing scheme, then that scheme would lead to it’s conclusion of the Official Launch/Reveal.

It’s not super secret as if peope are going to steal Pumpkin Spice Latte Mettalic, but it’s also not officially launched yet as anything more than the upcoming Wrangler... so relax... and wait until Nov. 29th when you can open your presents, like the rest of us... I have to admit part of me is considering buying another JK that is just about fully depreciated and doing an LS swap, or buying one already swapped.

The only engine that interests me is the diesel.

I swear JK owner heavy forums are the only ones I ever see people claim the 4.0L was a terrible engine. It's generally regarded by most to be one of the best engines Jeep ever produced or put into anything. It didn't make any horsepower, but it did make all of it's power at lower RPMs where you actually want it in a Jeep that doesn't spend all of it's time at the mall. Miserable fuel mileage? It got mid to high teens in a stock TJ, which for the era it was in was pretty darn decent for a brick with a tent on top of it. I daily drove an AMC 401 powered J-Truck with full time 4wd for a while and got about 7mpg on a good day when gas was $4/gal, come complain about the 4.0L's gas mileage again, please :P You're pushing a generally flat surface through the air, it's never going to be an efficient vehicle compared to other SUVs without major body shape revisions.

Mine nor most 4.0Ls I've ever dealt with had any huge leaks, and at one point in college I helped with a decent little fleet of 10-15 XJs that saw offroad service every day. Occasional O2 sensor, radiator or a water pump around 100k, and you were basically problem free engine-wise till 300k+. The doors and rear hatch on the other hand...

So far, I'd say the 3.6L has been a decently worthy successor now that they've gotten the kinks worked out. Any new thing that Chrysler launches is generally gonna be fairly buggy for the first few years...because let's be honest, QC/QA has never been their strong point in comparison to other automakers, but they are improving.

I am sure that not every Jeep owner ever has been in love with it. I think that over time it has become more reliable. Do I wish fiat was changing it to something more reliable, yes. Am I still going to buy one, yes.

My hype isn't marketing induced. It is Jeep induced. A little blue YJ did that to me back in late 1992. I blame AMC. Ive been afflicted ever since. Should I be upset?
