Well just went out and tried it. It does nothing for my dome lights. The knob next to it will turn them on but this knob does nothing for them. Still interested in know or maybe mine does not work.

There are some older posts on this. Supposedly if you have the Rubicon it includes some additional interior lighting in the footwell, near the door handles, etc. and this rotary controls the brightness of those.

Wait until it’s dark and then try again. Also, here’s from the owner’s manual:

It's the light in the footwell. With headlights on, turn it off and on. You'll notice the light near the pedals will dim and brighten

I have a sport and the only thing it does is adjust the brightness of the door handle light which is barely detectable even at full brightness.

Yes it is a dimmer for the foot well lighting. I have ‘20 Sahara with this feature. It is difficult to see in the day light but, it is very visible at night or in a dark space.

I'm still amazed at the number of wrong answers that are posted every time this questions comes up....it's obviously the blinker rate control.
