Eye screws...ratchet straps...and piece of wood.
Less than $50
Thanks to #[Banned Site]

I had planned to build a simple pulley system but would have to over come some hurdles in the garage. So when a simpler way.
Nice work! Two questions:

  1. What is the dimension of that lumber?
  2. When lowering, how do you get the wood out of the way?
Thank you for posting.

We've got a Toplift Pro. It was a little pricey but well worth it and works great. Top off and stored in less than 5 minutes including taking the bolts out.

Not really, I back into the garage and use the harbor freight hoist. I built a big H out of one inch square stock, lay it on the roof, hook up some straps, and lift it to the ceiling.

I used a 1x3 x 8ft (from Lowes). 2x4 would give a bit more room to screw the eye screw. Make sure to secure the top to the beam with zip ties or something so it won't get knock off (see video below).

Open the back gate so spare wheel is out of way.
Lower the top onto jeep and lift it of the beam.

I like the Topsy Lift gate brackets for the back lift points, is there anything clever like that for the front lift points of a 2 door hardtop?

I am making a lift from a HF shop crane as well.

I recommend power tools if possible. I assembled mine with hand wrenches and was pretty sore the next day
Not difficult, just be patient and do it right. I watched the videos on their website a few times, which made following the printed instructions easier. Hardest part is adjusting the release cable, it really tested my patience.
