Also, I’ve never heard of low speed pre ignition issues with the Jeep’s 2.0.
My mustang is known for ecoboom when poorly tuned (or misdriven by lugging). With that in mind the argument of higher octane to cut down on knock is probably unnecessary on the Jeep.

91 is only 30 cents more where I fill up. That's about $5-$6 more to fill up each time, which is approximately $200 spread out over the year for the amount that I drive. It is worth the additional money for the added peace of mind even if it doesn't actually help in my opinion. I can see if the cost between the grades is much more or if you drive a lot more miles it might not be make sense.

owners manual calls for 87, but you have the option to run higher octane for "optimal performance" under conditions such as towing or extremely hot weather.
This is the right answer... Octane is nothing more than knock avoidance. Two factors that impact knock are load (torque) and ambient temperature. I run 87 when temps are cool and I'm not doing anything high load. Switch when I expect high ambient and heavier load requirements.

Anyone crazy enough to hunt for non-ethanol gas?
Somebody call for a crazy? That'd be me. I run pure gas in the tractor and all the outdoor equipment, and I did try it in 2 JLU's. 90 octane. Noticed no difference, and at the price... hell, it's more expensive than ethanoled 93 octane, at least around me.

Yeah, but if everyone used the search function there would only be five threads on this entire forum...

😃 I did that for first 2 years on my Ford Mustang GT! It was expensive and the gas station was 20 miles away. By the time I reach back home, I'll be down a marker.. lol

  1. Can you fit 35x12.50s on a stock suspension
  2. Why is my order taking so long?
  3. What engine should I go with
  4. Was that pot hole actually death wobble?
  5. Broncos: some hate them and some switch to them

Judging by the output of the SRT tune, these engines are not necessarily detuned, but have a lot of room left for the sake of longevity.

The further we are from peak performance the further down the octane chart we go. When they break GPEC5 we'll probably see a lot of 93 only tunes and E85 tunes (E85 only if bigger DI injectors are available and reasonably affordable) and they will be glorious. Until then it will probably be 93 for me in the summer and 87 the other 4 months.

I tried a tank recently when I found some on a trip – zero performance or mileage difference.

Lots of extremes in the poll responses and hardly any mid grade users.

Since the octane in gas at the altitude where I live is low, I use mid grade should I drive to lower altitudes on the same tank. I notice zero difference otherwise.

Like others I vary octane selection based on ambient temperature. I always use top tier fuel….

It did well with E15? No noticeable differences? Mpg?
Always has, its 88 octane. 26 mpg plus city up until the tires and lift, now about 22.5 mpg but same power. Slight possibility I may get some mpg back with 93-94 but doubtful.
My Ram Hemi loves the stuff, the only day I used premium on her was when I trailered a JK.
I remember the difference between 87 and 93 being 20 cents - I would be using 93 if that were the case but this would just be wasteful today
