Ted,

What was the measurement from the ground to the top of the Jeep? I assume the 83" was from the floor to the top of your garage door opening?

Thanks!

Correct. I've edited the original for clarification.

Jeepless at the moment.
Can I see the 35ā€s on it? Side shot?

Mine languishes in I status in week 3...

I got it back from the tire place late last night and havenā€™t had time to shine them up, but here are some down and dirty photos for you.

Did you already calibrate for the tire size difference?
I have not yet, but the Tazer is sitting on my work bench waiting patiently for installation. šŸ˜€

35's look great! That is what I am planning to put on mine. Jeep lists the 392 at 74.5" tall from the factory. How tall is your Jeep now with 35's? Thanks!

37's are as big as I would go with those axles and that engine. My biggest hold back on pulling the trigger on the 392 is that I would want to crawl it and I am worried about it needing Dana 60's right away.
Has the section that is cast for the FAD on other JLs been beefed up? That seems to be the weak spot on the JL D44s. If that is not a weak spot on the 392, I wonder if one did RCV shafts up front with chromoly rear shafts (along with maybe adding a truss) and a regear to 4.10 or 4.56, would you really need D60s? Obviously you would not have free float axles, but the primary concern Previously seemed to be u-joints, FAD along with ring and pinion. Would the 4.10 or 4.56 gear ratio be sufficiently beefy on a D44 to handle 40s? Most would recommend 5.13 or 5.38 for the 3.6, which gets significantly smaller (weaker), but would that be as true with 4.10s or 4.56 and the 6.4?

I really have no idea, Iā€™m just posing the question.

If you get a chance, Iā€™d love to see a photo from the front or rear to show the stance with those 35s on the 392 wheels. Thanks, and looks great!

Hey James, just came across your post at almost 2:30 am, (Congrats by the way!) and I'm headed to bed for now, so I won't get the chance to check out your vid till later tomorrow. But I do have one question that I haven't gotten an answer to yet, that I am desperate to find..

What is the offset and backspacing of the stock 392 wheels??? I am anxiously waiting to order wheels & tires, and am hoping to get them here before my Jeep arrives, but I'm not that fluent on what kind of difference the specs on the wheels I'm finding, will have on the width and stance of my 392. (just going with 35 x 12.50's and no additional lift, if that matters, but I am not yet set on 17's versus 18's, or total width for the wheels though.)

I'm pretty new to this stuff, so any help here would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! -Rob
In my opinion, I would definitely stick with 17's over 18's. There are more tire and wheel options plus you will have more tire sidewall with your 35's. If you check out my video, you will see the comparison of my JLUR with no lift and 35's vs the 392 with 33's. I have a stock set of JLUR wheels with 35x12.5's on them that I use for wheeling and they work great with no spacers or anything. I don't know the exact specs on the 392 wheels, but I am pretty sure its the same as the JLUR wheels. My plan is to go with a 37x12.5 on the stock wheels and worst case I may need some spacers.

Hi James, I am jealous.. Congrats and enjoy... I would very much like to know the clearance from the ground to the highest point sitting on pavement... Many Thanks !!
I'll try to measure it later today, how tall is your garage? My Gladiator is on a 4.5" lift with 40's and sits at 80", so this is definitely lower than that.

Might want to wait and update software first. Little birdie saying there is an option coming to allow 2WD only mode :like:

Anyone happen to know how much the 392 OEM wheels weigh?

well, just doing the math...if my garage door opening was 83" and I had about 9" of clearance - that leaves the Jeep sitting around 74" tall at the rear where I measured. Given the slight forward rake, I would think the rear would be the taller part of the Jeep. I can take actual measurements tonight if needed.

That is what I was wondering. I came to the same conclusion doing the math, but that doesn't match what Jeep lists on their website. I would assume if it starts at 74.5" and you put 35s on it, the Jeep would raise up to 75.5".
